Kapihan ng Bayan sa UP tackles mining, environs
Kapihan ng Bayan sa UP, a public service project of the UP Alumni Association, will hold another session on Tuesday, October 23, at 3:00-5:00 PM, at the Luciano Hall of the Ang Bahay ng Alumni on R. Magsaysay Ave. in the UP Diliman campus in Quezon City.
The topic for discussion is a pressing issue that has been on and off the front pages of newspapers for several decades now: Mining Issues and Environmental Concerns.
The resource person for this session of the Kapihan, held every two months, is a well-known authority on the subject: Dr. Walter W.B. Brown, who has been in the mining industry for over 45 years and has managed such corporations as Philex Mining, Semirara Coal, Surigao Consolidated Mining, Vulcan Industrial Mining, Acoje Mining, and North Davao Mining.
All interested parties are invited to join the discussion. “Kapihan ng Bayan sa UP” aims to serve as a regular forum for intelligent and constructive discussion of issues relevant to the Filipino people’s development as a nation.
In a democracy, such public discourse is a valuable tool for guiding national leaders and all citizens to collectively confront and attempt to resolve challenges posed by these issues.
