Im in favor of ERAP RESIGN movement,it will give our economy a very big boost,
like what happened 2 days ago where Phil peso moved back to 48 something
against the dollar..but when investors sensed that ERAP is not stepping down
peso moved back up to almost 50 against the dollar.
But Im not in favor of putting gloria in the place or ERAP,gloria is not tha strong,
and she doesnt have the full support of the people. Cory was even strong than gloria,
and cory got the full support of the filipino people during that time, but same thing
happened..people sorrounding them were the ones who got richer and richer....if gloria
assumes the presidency...things will be worse than ever!!!

For Sec Alfredo Lim, I used to be an avid fun of this guy,the dirty
harry of filipinos..protector of the weak, friends of the good ones
and enemy of the bad ones...jueteng lords are also bad people..and yet
he still chose to work for the bad one..the lord of the jueteng lords...
He ate what he said and he swallowed his ideologies and his good principles.

Estrada should resign from his presidential post.  He has no moral ascendancy to govern the country.  He is also so naive to run the economic affairs of the nation.

-----

**@yahoo.com (virginia)
We all know that the Philippines is experiencing an economic crisis which stems from the political instability that we have.  I strongly believe that the opposition should just wait for the constitutional process of impeachment to be finished before they start influencing other people's opinion.  It becomes pretty obvious that Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is very eager to be the next president.  She should know that the economic condition is not guaranteed to become better when she becomes the president.  Kung maging president siya, she has to prove something dahil mapapahiya lang siya kapag wala rin siyang nagawa sa bayan.  One more thing, hindi ba alam ng oposisyon that a dumb like Erap could also be deaf.  How could he listen to them? The first thing to do is to educate the mass so that next election, they would know who to vote for.  Please lang, anyone but erap and the erap-like.

It is sad but very real that the masses are sympathizing with Erap. Like in the movies, they feel they should side with the "underdog." Erap knows this and is capitalizing on it heavily.

This only shows us more realities: (i)that the poor has definitely grown in number; (ii) poverty has adversely affected people's values so much; (iii) the rich still do not care enough; and (iv) it will take a tremendous effort for our church/business/civic leaders to convince the masses of their sincerity. In the Jubillee Year, I would still like to think that this is only the beginning of a great miracle. The voice of the poor will finally count, don't you think so?

The only thing our President should do is to repent, and accept what he has done!!! It's not a matter who have the biggest audience during different rallies, but who could improve and/or developed this "troubled" country.  Asking for forgiveness is not that easy to do, but if it will put an end to all of these, God will surely be with us! A question existed in my mind the past days, why people who are up there wants every Filipino to do this and that, but still we can't see the light? I don't know what will I be or have rather after I send this to you, but at=least I did my part of talking, listening, and asking!  All of the senators and congressman had their sides, but that's not the point, it's where the Filipino mass are going? The younger generation who seems so quiet but they too are affected in the sense that they're scared of what's going on around them!  Our old ones, why do we make they're getting shorter life bitter and harder, than we could make it better and happier? If only we unite and talk in Jesus Christ's name, only we will be
o n e !!!

With all the problems the country is suffering especially the ordinary people who survived from hand to mouth existence, the politician should be responsible for all of this. When Marcos, Cory and Ramos was president of all them was or anyway have been ask to resign by the politician. I am not anyway affected by the situation in the country right now because I am secured with my family in the States but how can I turn away from all of the problem and suffering to all my family and relatives. Can we support them forever? Can we come home and retire peacefully? I don't even think the VP can survive a year with all the problem. I hope these politician who run for office for personal motive will change their mind and prioritized the masa not their pocket.

God bless.

I think  he only has two choices... either
that he will be impeached or he steps from his

he will be doing the whole country a big favor...
which might even cause him the admiration of the Filipinos.

The President should wake up and must realized that he is not playing another "lead" role in a movie scene wherein the "bida" always stays "alive".

He must think of his countrymen and the economy and not the "role" he use to play in the movies.

"Godfather" is only a movie and this should not happen in real life of the Filipino people.

It's now that I am beginning to believe that we have an imbecile for a president.  For how can Estrade just ignore the clamor for him to resign.  How can he keep on declaring his innocence on the charges that are being levelled against him.  How can he hang on to his job now that he has been unmasked.
How can he miss the simple point that majority of Filipinos don't believe in him anymore and would like him to just step down.  It is amazing how he and his sycophant followers look through rose coloured glasses when crystal clear reality that it's time to "cut and cut clear" is staring them in the face.
As a Filipino, it is amazing, truly amazing how strong a capacity we have to refuse to accept reality!!!!

Erap should resign, he doesn't have the capability nor moral authority to run this gov't.  The Phil. Presidency under Marcos regime made us the sick man of Asia, and with Ninoy's death, the presidency's integrity was restored back by Cory Aquino thru People Power, but the transition was a painful one as her administration  was beset with turmoils of political instabilities and calamities, FVR provided the political stability and leadership we needed, unifying most of his political foes to work together for the good of the country  and led us thru a difficult recovery period, but he succeeded signifantly, earning the recognition and admiration from leaders and economists around the world.  Now, here comes Erap, voted by the masses for reasons I cannot understand until now (I came from a poor family also but I have always  voted  for political leaders in terms of issues/capability and not for their popularity in showbiz), and all the hard-earned fruits we've gained for the past 12 years were erased and pulled down the Presidency to a deeper mire than Marcos' time.  Erap insists he should stay on since he has the support of the masses who do not understand the real issues.  Erap doesn't care if the country will be plunged to an economic disaster that will make these masses go hungrier, crime rates to go higher and God knows what else.  But of course why should he, he and his wife/mistresses/children were all taken care of, they have all the wealth they need for the rest of their lives.  But  what about the 90% of the population (majority of which are supposedly his mass supporters)?  I don't know how to make the masses understand the real issues and convince them that Erap must go but if Erap has any sense of responsibility or real concern for these people and the  country at all, he should volunteer to go and hand over the Presidency to someone capable of doing the job, while there's still time.  He knows fully well that he can't handle the job, his key advisers are deserting him, business groups are calling for his resignation, the people are taking on the streets both for him and against him, the whole country is  divided!  So where do we go from here?

To Mr. Estrada,

You are calling all Filipinos to unite and I'm sure it would happen if you'll join the call of the majority for you to resign. Through your resignation, I beleive our economy would recover from a very deep trouble. In this way, you can help more poor Filipinos that you love most(daw)and care for(kuno). Hindi lang isang supot na pagkain na kakainin namin for one time ang kailangan namin Mr. Estrada. What we need is a job that we can get through a good goverment and a strong economy that we don't have right now. Why don't you try to listen to us na masyado ng apektado at nahihirapan. Once you did it, nasa likuran mo kami.

So Mr. Estrada, please............

I've been in the states for the past 6 months now and have been a first-hand witness to the differences between the democracy America enjoys and the relatively young democracy that is the Philippines. The Jueteng scandal shows that we have much to learn as a nation...specifically, being more vigilant of our public officials. Mr. Estrada's hi-jinx have put our country in a bad light. Unfortunately, even his resignation will do little to ease the blight that has been placed on our country's image.

Dear inquirer,

Though I may not be a political analyst but what can I observe on the progress of the events for the ouster of the president is that it failed to gain "enough momentum". It shows that people is still on the septum of their hearts. They are not convinced on the sincerity of Mrs. Arroyo. Unlike in 1986, people felt the authenticity of Pres. Aquino. We are having a leadership successor crisis right now. I hope that we should also pray for the rightful successor. I hope that people or political tacticians can feel the throb of the people and expose the true colors of the oppotunistic succesor. Let us use our right and left cerebral hemisphere.May God shed light on her an on the Filipino people.

President Estrada is the target of street rallies going on, so is Vice-President Macapagal-Arroyo, the "soon-to-become" president of the Republic of the Philippines". It appears that the latter is suspecting she is wanted by many of us Filipinos to take hold of the highest position in the land.  Didn't she know she is behaving as if she can't wait to sit on the dais?

The daily news have it:  the respected vice president of the country, instead of excerting effort to promote the greater good, to cater to the needs of our south-bound economy, is with groups of mortals; to strengthen their thrust for the President's ouster.

Yes, I am against those who govern without care for the Constitution, I am against those who become drunk of power.  May President Estrada be served with a fair judgment.

It should be made clear that our battlecry of kicking the President out of Malaca. ang does not go with a burning desire to drag Vice President Arroyo to the presidency.  Vice President Arroyo should realize that it is just but an accident.  I will not wonder if in the succeeding days, the same group of civilians who are on strike today will walk the streets to ouster another president.

-----

Got the news but why people voted him unanimously like him to resign/stepdown.

I think that President Joseph "ERAP" Estrada should be allowed to finish his term of office to proved that he can help our country to moved on. We all know that he succeeded a goverment that has lots of debt. And we cant blame the president if he give our the result we all expect but still he is doing his best to help the masses. He on his own ways have the ability to lead the country to its goal but as a citizen of the Philippines, we need to do our share by uniting our hands and extend our effort for our country. For those who wants the President to leave his position, I know that you have your own reasons but why cant you wait for the right time. What I mean is we have a law that needs to be followed for the impeachment processed. In this case all we have to do right now is to help our goverment to make our economy better.

Pres. Estrada will not resign. He is very tough on his stand of not resigning from office.

He will neither be impeached, the senators who are for his impeachment are not enough, others are just "trendy" that is go with the flow. Resign from LAMP, maniwala ka  sa kanila! they are just looking kung saan may maraming tao, doon sila, sayang ang boto.

When Mr. Estrada was elected into office I was nearly convinced that he is the "man of the masses"...indeed because of his very popular slogan "erap para sa mahirap". But then I realized that He is a "Robin Hood" in a reverse trajectory "stealing from the poor" by maintaining a Jueteng "and giving the profits of this jueteng to his already rich friends like Atong Ang..."
Mr. Estrada, if you happen to read this, for the sake of the whole nation..."Please resign now!!!" by doing so you will be saving the whole country from a possible economic doom. If you resign now, I'm sure you will be written in the history as the president who saved the whole country from a possible economic breakdown by resigning from office. So, you'll be a hero!!! how's that sound???

i am a college student of the university of the philippines cebu college, taking up bs biology, year 3. the first time i heard about the "revelation" of gov. luis chavit singson, i was so shocked on why such the person occupying the highest position in the land was involved in a very big scandal. at first i was doubtful on the said "revelation" by the governor, but as time passes by and as i listened to the news everyday, ive finally said to my self that indeed the president is really involved in the illegal activities and the accusation of the governor that he is "the father, the lord of all the jueteng lords!" why did i jumped into this conclusion? at first he is so silent about this accusation to him. its very unusual for a person being accused such to scandal who does not even give a voice if its not true. and also, i think the no person will ever accused somebody especially in this case wherein the person you've accused to is the one occupying the highest position of the land - no less than the president of the republic of the philippines, knowing that he has all the powers for you to be picked up anytime, and be kept into silent forever! another thing why gov. chavit is reliable is that he himself is also part of the jueteng activity! to be the star witness of the case because you yourself is involved is already a very heavy evidence. just like in the case of vizconde where alfaro is the star witness and also in the case of cebu's chong sisters where davidson is the star witness and he himself is involved in the crime.

i feel so ashamed in this scandal of the president! he is expected to be the model of all the public officials in the country because he is occupying the highest position of the land.

i feel so embarassed! what will the people abroad say to the philippines? our ocw's almost have no more face to face the people there in abroad because of this scandal.

most of all, our economy is not just slumping, not just dying, but already dead, dead, dead!

the very solution to this political problem which affects very much on the economy if for the President to resign!!!

Resign! Resign! Resign!

While there's time, Erap should give way for the betterment and welfare of Filipinos, show his Filipino conscience.

Otherwise, proceed to his impeachment, because a culprit should not be given an inch of immunity to escape all of his deeds.

The impeachment committee as well as the incoming leadership need to show the world that we're still firm to stand as Filipinos or else.

We, the OFWs of the world, as one, feel the lowest morale the Estrada leadership has done not to every OFWs but to all Filipinos of the world. And we can say this time that we're not proud of having a leader like him.

I think Erap should resign as soon as possible. Pro-Erap politicians say that we have to wait for the constitutional process of impeachment to proceed, but then, can we put our trust to these senators that they will decide and act according to their conscience? Are we stupid to believe that they will not take the millions of pesos that may be offered by Erap and his cronies as 'balato' for their Erap-favored vote? These pro-Erap senators will just say 'insufficient evidence' to make the impeachment fail, and then, they take home the huge 'balato.' Anyway, election time is near and these ambitious politicians would definitely need more money.

I think Erap was the biggest mistake the Filipino people ever committed.  Electing a lazy drop out, womanizer, gambler and drunkard into the highest office in the land is a major blunder which unfortunately we are all paying for.  In case anybody asks it is more painful for us OFWs because we were never given the chance to have a say in who gets to be our president.  For so many years we were taxed without representation which in another country would be considered tyranny.  If only for the fact that GMA will definitely be avoiding the pitfalls of Erap then I think she will do a better job.  If not then God help us all.

It is a great sorrow to watch the leaders of our counry fighting among themselves. Our country is facing a big crises which could be a threat to us, the youth. And instead of being one in helping solve the economic and political crises, the other leaders are fast in washing their hands much like Pontius Pilate.

To Madame Arroyo, she is the mother of this country and Erap the Father. Is that the way she shows her support? Or is she the one who hates to sacrifice.Shouldn't they be together in solving the economic crises? And even if she might become President, if we aren't cooperating and are having the crab mentalities get in the way, would she succeed? I doubt it.

She is just a dummy, a pawn in the games chavit is playing.i wish she let her so called intelligence rule her decisions.

The jueteng scandal has brought the Philippine economy down and all fingers of the opposition leaders and supporters point them to only one person, Pres. Joseph Estrada. Let's impeach him, why not? But let's do it constitutionally.

VP Arroyo's pressure on Erap to resign, along with the opposition leaders, clearly shows that they are hungry for power and has very little concern for the economy and the poor.

Arroyo has served for two years under the administration of Erap and has said that she is a food economist. Why then has she withheld helping Erap during those years? Is it because of her hidden interests? Is she taking advantange of the situation now? She sees this scandal as opportunity for her to become president without the need for election. What an easy ride to the presidency, isn't it Gloria?

Cory Aquino has done nothing for the country. Let her be a mother to Kris. .

Sen. Drilon and Spkr Villar are opportunists.

It is really amazing how supposedly decent and honorable people can be blind to the shenanigans of Mr. Estrada.Looking inward, perhaps it is ingrained in our culture. Can't we not  rise above self-interest to that of the national interest? Are the Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Apolinario Mabini, etc., just mutants of our race? Don't we have the courage to say enough is enough?

As I have always maintained, Mr. Estrada's presidency will usher for us a lot of firsts, and perhaps, will finally bring us to our senses and realize Ninoys belief that filipinos are worth dying for.

What must it take before someone becomes guilty?!. I am wondering what convinces our president to remain is his position. I just hope he does not have this selfish attitude; whether it be protecting his ego or realizing his political dreams. The ratio we are speaking of here is 1:billions of suffering filipinos. Being an enthusiastic leader is not enough rather someone effective towards critical situations the country is facing. Besides, we're fed up of action or highly suspense scenes our movie director (sorry! I meant president) is directing - only will we be willing to become actors if we will benefit from the act. All the crisis are cause by the people who wants Erap to resign. Why did not they just help the present administration to solve the economy crisis instead of making troubles like rallying almost every day that cause a lot of traffic. They are the one who are burden to the people.

The crisis that our country is experiencing is the result of lack of education.  Most of the people who voted for ERAP believes that the role ERAP plays in the movies is his true self.  Most of the people who voted for him come from the low income families and those whom they can fool.  The government should redirect its efforts by providing more attention to the educational system of the country.  We are losing grounds against our Asian neighbors in terms of education.  Since most of these Asian countries have a higher literacy level, they think before they vote for a candidate.  It can be shown that most of our Asian neighbors have propelled the economy since most of their citizens are highly educated.  India for example is beginning to dominate custom made softwares in Europe.  Probably someday, India might even be in a better economic condition than the Philippines.  To our law makers, wake up.  Education plays a major role in achieving sustainable growth in the economy.  Stop giving the excuse that most currencies in Asia have devalued.  The point is if they devalue, ours should not.

I have a very bad feeling that Erap will finish his term. Imelda, Danding and all his other cronies will make sure of that.  Imagine what will happen otherwise - Cory will make sure the Marcoses go back to Hawaii, PacMan Danding would have no more businesses to chew, Lucio Tan will have to pay billions in tax dues and the other cronies might end up in jail for their illegal business activities and smuggling operations.  Of course, Laarni Enriquez will have to shed some pounds and go back to showbiz to be able to pay rent of Boracay. The impeachment is nothing but another Erap movie.  Some senators will definitely be paid to kill the impeachment.  It is a known fact that they receive payolas, thanks to Senators Osmena and Oreta for substantiating it.  Of course, these payolas do not necessarily come in cash - they also come in the form of government contracts and government positions for family members as substantiated again by Senators Oreta and Santiago, respectively.  The way I see it, this impeachment is a done deal.  Erap will get away with it.  He will be the hero in the end and we will all be the contrabida.  So I urge the opposition to use all their resources to prevent whitewash in the impeachment trial.  You owe it to us. Make sure that the truth comes out for Erap's loyal masses to see.

As a student our President Joseph Estrada should made up his mind.  It would be better if he would resign now because it might be the best decision he ever did in his life. As of Vice-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said there would still be life outside malacanang.

If Erap really wants to help our country he should resigned now. In the Bible, if God punishes a wicked ruler, He punished also the whole country, we have one since ERAP has many wives, involved in gambling and he drink to much. kapag hindi siya umalis ibig sabihin nito ay kinukunsinti natin siya gaya ni Bro.

Politicians want them to be served not to serve kasi ang intensyun nila is to protect their own interest lalo na pag business.

If you want progress, politicians should unite regardless of their party and help each other wag yung tirahan kabi-kabila.

It is very unfortunate that President Estrada's past mistakes have finally caught up with him. He was going to be a "rare breed" among presidentials  because of a lot of unconventional circumstances in his life. His becoming a president could be likened to a wager the Filipino "masa" took- gambling on his leading the country hoping he might bring about a succinct reversal of fortunes. But woe and behold, it seems that even the small fortunes the "masa" are holding on to will likewise be drained. I fervently hope that he comes to his senses  at a time when economic recovery will still be a tangible possibility and see the wisdom in his resignation. After achieving Presidency, he probably rested on his laurels not expecting this unexpected turn of events. We will just hope, and hope for the best, and further hope that nothing more worse would  come.

it seems that everybody is affected with what is happening in our country...i think our President is over using his authority..now He's bribing the poor people with land titles because he feels that he's losing his credibility little by little...that's why now he's bribing the poor people to gain back his lost integrity...and it's a very clear strategy that he's trying to cover the eyes of the poor people by giving them land titles....so that poor people will feel that the President is a Pro-poor....some big investors were really affected with the current crisis...so how can you improve the peso-dollar exchange if this investors are losing their trust to the Leader of the country and they also lost their interest to invest in our country...and how can you help improve our economy if you'll see our President playing casino with his friends Atong Ang and other gambling lords...Building big mansions for his WIVES...

i think the president really need to step down bec as i see the current situation in our country most of the filipinos has lost its trust to the president and there will be no peace and the country will not move on with demonstrations and protests, so i think the best way to stop this demonstations and protests is for the president to resign...bec he's the reason why such things are happening...and the jueteng scandal is really a very serious matter we really need to take it seriously bec the involved is the leader of our country...for  me i don't want to have a leader with many wives, a leaders who loves gambling...and a corrupt leader...

and for those who are supporting a kind of president....that only means that they don't care whether the president has so many wives...they don't care gamblings....or should i say They don't care about our country...hey people wake up...this is the time that we really need to open our eys and our mind the future of our country is in our hands...

and for those religious groups who supports the president...i don't think that you're true to yourself and i don't think that you really believe in the Bible because your you are tolerating the evil works of the president....

Estrada is too insensitive to issues to heed the call for his resignation.  Impeachment is the only peaceful exit option (others could be violent and far more destructive).  That is, if there won't be enough suckers and leeches left in Congress to support Erap's dishonorable stay as president.

I believe it would be better for Pres. President Estrada must finish his term because majority of the filipino people outside Luzon still believes of his sincerity, considering all the present accomplishment projects in far barangays under his administration now like farm to market roads/post harvest facilities/livelihood projects/technology trainings and most of all information dissimination to the masses esp. farmers on how to uplift their standard of living basically thru values transformation. All of this been done thru Estradas priority program given task to this are the three big important gov't. agencies DENR/DAR & DA.People who availed this program have hearts and minds to think and weigh on the good deeds that the president is doing. So in short those politicians who are power hunger must have to wait until the people who voted Pres. Estrada during last election will nolonger wanted to vote for him. What's happening to our country is partially of our own making. The thing is, we did not do anything to stop this guy during the 1998 elections. My point being, we did not heed the many exposee's during those times and we had ourselves divided over the different candidates during those times. Erap had a solid vote coming from the different 'kampons' of his cronies whereas the other voters were divided among roco, de venecia, de villa, lim, osmena and others, I guess that's why he won. In any case we could have prevented it by trying to educate the people, empower them with the facts sorrounding their candidates with the best and easy to 'get' forms of media.

We are about to exercise our right to suffrage once again. Will we allow this to happen again?

This is a message directed to the ordinary Filipino in these trying times. Almost 99% of the Filipinos living in the San Francisco Bay Area are keeping abreast with the present crisis in leadership in our country. A lot of people had made plans, as early as June of this year, to go back to our country and savor the Christmas season, Pinoy style. Sadly, those same people   are now returning their tickets and have reversed their plans.

Erap is our problem... he was never qualified to run for office in the first place - IF his intention is "really" for the good of the country & the masses,he should step down. You're not in the movies anymore mr. president... there are no chances for "take twos" in leading the country.

The impeachment provisions of the 1987 Constitution has
assumed a graver dimension when the term of office of the
president was fixed to a six-year tem without re-election.
With re-election after a term of four years under the 1935
Constitution or with the process of withdrawal of
confidence in the Prime Minister (the equivalent of the
President under the 1935 Constitution) by the National
Assembly under the 1973 Constitution, the political
accountability of the President through the electoral
process or the peoples' representative was then better
assured.

There has been a reasonable apprehension that the
presidential term of six years without re- election fixed
by the 1987 Constitution could result in the country being
stuck with a bad President or a President with bad programs
or policies. But such is the risk in electing a president
taken by the people who may not remove him during the term
thus fixed except by impeachment. There is thus more cogent
reason anchored on fundamental ground that when the conduct
of the President constitutes "culpabale violation of the
Constitution, treason, bribery, graft and corruption, other
high crimes, or betrayal of public trust," impeachment as a
constitutional remedy must be sought with greater zeal and
exigency.

The Constitution does not leave to the whim of the
Legislature this check and balance mechanism called
impeachment. The duty to impeach is at the core of the
governmental system established in the Constitution. It is
not intended to be politicalized according to the will of
the dominant legislative party. The impeachment process as
an earnest obligation on the part of Congress is akin to
the duty of the Supreme Court to say what the law is in
appropriate cases brought before it. When the ground
therefore for impeachment exists against a President,
Congress is under solemn obligation to stand in for all the
people and remove him whose continuation in office poses a
serious injury to the Republic. When Congress fails the
people, the people have the right to use
extra-constitutional means in self-defense. Impeachment is
a peaceful alternative to revolution.

Now that the impeachment proceeding against President

Estrada is underway to the Senate for trial there may be a
need to reflect on what could be at stake in the process.
To begin with, it has afforded  a breather for the
president and his political strategists to recoup and for
the market possibly to correct, while it is continuing to
confront the street parliamentarians with dilemma of either
to conserve their steam or intensify their momentum as the
impeachment formalities unfold.

Upon the Senate now lies the salvation of republicanism and
the rule of law in the country. The decision of that body
could make or break the Republic. The good news is that the
House of Representatives has taken the initiative with some
of its "brave" members setting the proper tone in motion by
transcending partisanship. The bad news is that the Senate
is not an impartial jury. The senators have not been chosen
as a microcosm of Philippine society to judge their peer.
This means that the trial of President Estrada will be
conducted by a "tampered" jury, the prejudgements of most
of the members of which are quite well known.

One can only be anxious now if the whole affair might just
turn out to be an extravagant legal drama where the
critical protagonists would be the high-powered lawyers of
the President on the one hand and the prosecuting
congressmen on the other. The House prosecution managers
will have the initiative to keep the "ouster" momentum
going even as this would have the unintended effect of
somehow assuaging the watchful and restless citizenry. This
grave responsibility of the House  prosecutors should not be
taken lightly. If in doubt of their prosecutorial skills,
the congressman assigned to do the task must enlist the
service and advice of the best trial experts at their
disposal. Former Solicitor General Mendoza (who was the
lead lawyer for the government in the martial law cases)
and former Chief Justice Narvasa (who, more than a jurist,
is an expert trial tactician) know their trade. They also
know how to prepare for trial. Remember that in a
"perception" trial as in an impeachment case like this, all
the defense will have to show is to convince the Filipino
people that the nine senators now known to be "partial" to
the President will have reasonable ground to believe to
remain partial to the President.

At the hands of any one of the nine or eight senators lie
the legitimacy and authority of the system we have borrowed
from the Americans. He or she could either inspire the
people's loyalty to the system and its values or trifle
with them by clinging to partisanship and self- interest.
By now it should be known that the difference between a
president constitutionally "impeached" and one forcibly
"ousted" could spell the survival of the system itself
under which the honorable senator holds his or her office.

Mr.Estrada already admitted to having taken a bribe! The
money being intact or not does not matter at all. The point
is he accepted the money.

-----

**@digitelone.com (anhel)
I feel that with the structural re-arrangements made by the
congress, estrada will not be impeached.  I believe that
most of our so-called honorable senators will not rise
beyond beyond their personal interests. There was no need
for a change in the congress leadership.  and as we saw it
happen live on TV last Monday, it seems deals have been
made between between malacanang and some senators who voted
for the ouster of sen. Drillon.  Whatever the
justifications, the fact remains that those now in control
are sympathetic with the president. Therefore, all that we
will see will be an impeachment charade.

-----

**@ (Carolyn)
Nobody is entitled to pass judgement to anybody - not even
Cardinal Sin for it would be against the teachings of the
Bible.  Instead of criticizing and condemning the
government, we must all work together to resolve the crisis
we're into right now.  Let us wait for the constitutional
process to take place.  If Gloria Arroyo really feels that
she has the mandate of the people, then her time will come
on 2004 because ERAP has his mandate when he won last 1998
election.  Lastly, I cannot adhere to the fact that many of
our politicians merely uses the situation in boosting their
political careers.  I feel very sorry for the country for
each and everyone of us has to be blamed for electing these
kind of people.

After observing the antics and
machinations of Congress and Senate
in their efforts to destabalise the
 impeachment procedure it is obvious
that the mistakes made by the voting public in the elections were not
limited to the election of a
 bad president.
One can only hope that, in the interests
of the Philippine nation, apart from
the recognised failure of the president
the failures and shortcomings  of the
represntatives of the people are also

Elections are round the corner.

All these happenings now seem so familiar.  It happened
then, when a great man was gunned down on a tarmac,
then when out of unexplained inertia, or perhaps
long-seething anger, droves of people trooped to EDSA.
Unherded by cash or land title or million-peso bribes.
Then also, a few people, and entities, stood courageoud to
the end.

I remember relying on these few truly noble people, and on
the Inquirer,to effect the needed change.

I'm so happy to rely on these honorable people, and on the
Inquirer, now.

To all you at Inquirer, and to all of you on the streets,
what is important is we don't let up.  It may take some
sacrifices from us now.  Or perhaps a lot of sacrifices.
But just like before, we will again prevail.

Go, go, go Inquirer, in your usual courageous way!

I think the president's admittance that he was being bribed
is a good ground to remove him from office. He knew that he
was being bribed by a gambling lord yet he failed to report
this to the authority. Clearly he fails to do his duty to
protect the interest of the people without bias by favoring
his family and friends. All he has said in his inaugural
speech are lies that he will not favor his family and
friends. Apparently Jinggoy held a high seat in a local
gov't assoc. he protected pal owned by his friend. He also
protected a friend from being extradited by the U.S.. If he

I believe that The Philippines will become a stronger
nation as a result of what we are going through right
now.  We were reborn during the EDSA's People Power and the
crisis we are experiencing right now can be considered as
growing pains.  Many strong democracy experienced
hardships. The question is "are we as a nation unite to
survive this crisis?" The democracies that preservered such
hardships are now enjoying strong democracries with adequate
check and balance. So let us not despair, we must unite so
in the future, our children might enjoy a stronger
democracy free of graft and corruption.
A plead to our Senators, please please listen to the
voices of your people, be impartial to the evidences and
testimonies but not to the voice of the people.  You are
writing history with your every move, if America has
founding fathers let yourselves be ours-for what you do
will solidify the foundation that was built in EDSA!

It is a definitely must that President Estrada to step down
from office (resign).  He has definitely placed our country
in economic and patriotic shambles, thus diminishing
whatever is left of our national pride.  I can't stand a
sight of him (may it be a picture or TFC's news
broadcast).  It is a mysterty how he could live with
himself.  He is the true demonic entity, if I were to see
one  ->  taking advantage of his country's cry to get him
elected (at which he uses his post to further kill his
people.)  How can he sleep at night?  After all this time,
only one question remains: Where is a coup d'etat when we
really need one?

President Joseph Ejercito Estrada is now in a situation
that is referred to in the American parlance, a Catch-22
Situation (Damned if you do and Damned if you don't)since
publice opinion
can no longer be dissuade to be in favor of President
Estrada. If the turn of events is such that President
Estrada is acquitted from all the charges by the Senate,
the general perception shall still be that
it was a "whitewash." This kind of scenario shall only
foment further instability from an economic-socio-political
point of view. From my point of view, this may be viewed not
only from the aspect of an economy collapsing but a
nation in total chaos. May God in all His Goodness and
Graciousness provide us all that we need to weather all
these problems our nation and countrymen are beseeched at
the present times.

I consider the Philippine's my adopted Country and am
saddened by all that is happening there. I have a home in
the southern part of Mindanao, and could not visit there
this summer due to the outbreak of a war. I want to return
to my home soon, and would like very much to see some kind
of civility there for my family. I have been coming to the
Philippine's since 1953 when I first visited while I was in
the U.S.Navy. I married a very beautiful Ilocona lady and we
have two adorable girl's who will have a business there one
day when they are grown, hopefully. My prayer's are with
Estrada and I pray that he will do the right thing for his
and MY Country.

tests, all within the purview of the constitution, and
today I invoke the same freedom to shout to the top of my
voice.. Mr. President you have to resign now!!
