Presently, I am working here in Saudi Arabia and I am
enjoying the peso value which is going high but in the
other hand I am very much sad to the filipino people
especially those who are poor and have no permanent job. If
Estrada really want to help the poor which is his great
dream. Then he should emmediately resign from his post and
help his successor to regain our economy which is growing
lifeless.

What reform? Being a good man is one thing. Being a good
leader is another.Mr. Estrada did not have the respect of
the "intellegencia" and he will not gain it be reforming.
For his behavior is not the main defect. But just an
aggravating factor. That people can throw very serious
accusations to the president, true or not does not actually
show that he is good or bad. It however, highlights the
lack of respect which he has made of to the highest
position of office in the land. In the coming 4 years, who
knows what else he can be accused of. So please, go now.

There is no doubt in my mind that Estrada is guilty....a
cheat and a farce. I don't think Estrada is clever enough
to cover hit tracks so finally it looks as though he will
lose the presidency! Unfortunately being a good actor does
not qualify you to lead a nation...only perhaps to create
that illusion for a while.
But what now lies ahead for the Philippines....
Estrada just adds another chapter to the recent history of
corrupt and self promoting presidents.
You don't have to be a genius to know that some major
changes have to occur to prevent this from
continuing.????

We, Filipinos, are already tired of hearing all these
complaining, blaming and criticising done by all our
leaders to one another. Why can't you just stop? We want to
see actions done this time around. Not one of you, our
leaders, civilian, military or religious, are exempt from
misdeeds anyway. Why can't you just perform your duties and
responsibilities like you are all supposed to. Do you think
if all of you are doing your jobs properly, these crises
would have happened? These crises have existed long before,
and until now, they are still alive and kicking. Why don't
you all just put all your differences aside and work side
by side, for the good of your own souls, and for the good
of the whole nation. If ever you have differences, that is
natural. But I believe you all should just try to reconcile
these among yourselves and perform your services to the
people like what you all have vowed to do.

I've been religiously following the controversy that is
hounding the country now. And the way I see it, there is no
other option for Erap but to resign. If he wants our country
to be in better shape. No dramatic pose can save him nor his
country from the terrible slump it is experiencing since the
jueteng scandal. Even his 7 point reform which he stressed
last night in his nationwide television address can no
longer be considered as the solutions to the crisis we are
facing. These reforms which he reiterrated last night only
adds up to the long list of promises he had made since the
start of his battered administration.
**@hotmail.com (gary )
what I think is that Erap should resign. If he won't get
impeached this year, next year he will have the axe 100%
because most of the congressmen who are still supporting
him would be diminished and will not win re-election this
coming 2001 National Election.
**@analog.com (Nimetz )
There are just three significant things a President shall
ensure in his term of office: economic stability, military
stability, and the trust of his constituents. If to lose
one or two of them is inevitable, he must make sure that
trust shall be left to him unblemished. For public trust is
the hardest thing to restore among the three.
Now, for all the suggested reforms... the question is-
how shall the President restore the formidable trust once
given to him but he himself desecrated it?
Economic reforms and the like are too hazy in the
absence of trust.
**@ (Angel)
I believe it is about time that he resign. For more than
two years, he has made a mockery of the presidency and the
Filipino people. He treated the presidency as an ordinary
position that he can do whatever he wants undermining the
hardships we have done to restore it from the dictatorial
regime. All the things that he has done, from BW scandal
and cronyism and jueteng payolas and mansions for his
mistresses, deserve no forgiveness. He can only save his
face and the respect of the Filipino people to the
presidency as an institution if he resign. This way he can
tell us that only the deserving Filipino with good and
moral standing can sit as a president and a leader of the
Filipinos.

>From what I heard, it is Ramos' idea of reconciliation
with the opposition, know their real sentiments and start
working to address the current economic issues.
But this will never work-out. For the reasons are not
economic, but political. It is the lack of confidence of
the people in the ability and integrity of the government
to rule its people. I think, the best thing for him to do
is to resign.
**@peoplepc.com (Paul)
I'm disappointed that Erap would not apologize at a
difficult time like this. The Philippines is in dire
straits because of the ongoing corruption committed by him
& his cronies. He had no choice but to respect the
people's choice for him to resign from office.
Why on earth would he assign Sec. Lim to investigate the
mansions that Erap & his relatives "allegedly" own? This
mirrors his vanity toward his guilt & is a waste of time &
money at the taxpayers' expense.
I'm sorry, Erap. You're still pulling a Clinton with

**@pinoycentral.com (Louie)
No amount of Estrada's program will ever resolve the
current crisis gripping the country today. Majority of the
people, from local businessmen to foreign investors, do not
have a tinge of confidence in Estrada government. He just
have to heed the greatest clamor of the people, for him to
resign. Call it a supreme sacrifice, but that is the only
option left for Erap.

It think the address is a wrong reaction to what is really
the situation. Most of the things that he mentioned in his
speech should have been his duty first and foremost!
This only shows how reactive this administration is. He is
the issue here- nothing else. And he's talking abt
reforms! He should be on top of the list of things to be
addressed.
The only thing that can be appreciated in his speech is his
effort to reconcile with the other parties. But for what?
So he can stay in power? First his capability was
questioned- i think we can all conclude that. Second he
has been questioned about his morality- we can say at what
level that exists. And now his integrity comes into
question- i guess that is enough. Picture this- a country
whose president's ability, morality and integrity is
questionable- what result can we expect!

President Estrada is the only Philippine president who is
sincere. When he took office in 1998, he immediately
informed the people that the national coffer was empty. Do
you think De Villa, De Venecia, Osmena, or Roco will do the
same, if ever, anyone of them became the President-elect?
What we are suffering now are the after-effects of FVR

Being in the opposition doesn't mean that at a sight of a

Before Estrada came into power, he has promised the country
many things as a politician usually promise during the

Okay, marami siyang natulungan, the likes of Lucio Tan,

The trust of foreign investors in our country were all gone

When South Korea and Japan experienced economic
difficulties a few years back, people sold their gold and
dollars to the government to help them overcome the
economic crisis. True enough, both these countries came out
of their own economic crisis and are back on track towards
full economic recovery. But we Filipinos are really
different, at this time of crisis, most of us would rather
keep and hang on to our precious dollars. How do we expect
to survive our own kind of crisis? Yet could we blame
ourselves if we refuse to let go of our gold and
dollars.Probably majority of the Filipino people have lost
hope and trust in the system of governance being
exemplified by our leaders. There is that general
perception that in a corrupt society, only the rich and
moneyed survive and become richer, and the poor and
marginalized have little to gain from government policies
vis-a-vis globalization.I hope that whoever leads our

I think the Campaign for the president

is to pressure those congressman and
senators to vote for Erap's impeachment.
How about an all day vigil at the batasan.
Another thing...what is cardinal sin doing
in meddling with the affairs of the state?
I think the next logical step after getting
rid of Erap is petition the pope to get
sin out of his position.
Stop the clergy from meddling with the
affairs of the state. Let them do what they
are suppose to do..uplift the spirit and
soul of the people!!!!!!!
By the way who is auditing Sin from the
Money that was given to him by pagcor?
Ano ang ginawa doon sa pera?
Sin can never campaign honestly against
Erap as everybody knows he does not like
Erap from the beginning. He has a vested
interest in getting rid of Erap because
Erap does not favor the catholic church so
he is just doing the campaign for the good
of himself and his organization and not
of the country.
By the way i still attend catholic mass
every sat noon (i work sundays) and i like
the mass i attend because the priest does
not meddle with politics and does not read
sin's politically motivated pastoral letters.

The designation of DILG Secretary Alfredo Lim as the man
incharge of investigating the alleged mansions of Erap
fuels speculations that he is about to bolt from the

statement of the President does not in anyway diminish the
growing sentiment for the him to resign, Secretary Lim must
decide now!

Is Erap sincere in his reform program?
What are these 'reform' program really
for? Unless Erap would oust his cronies
like Lucio Tan, and those political/ economic advisers,
those wanton cabinet secretaries, his various families and
their vested interest, NO such reforms would make sound.
Likewise, Erap should not fool the "masa" by such
"show-time" of giving those 'questionable' land-titles, he
should instead address the very problem in his
administration. I don't think the 'jueteng' scandal is the
reason for this eco-political crisis, this just a part of
it that some personalities and even the people who voted
for him are not satisfied with this administration are
provoking. The best way he could
do right now is to step down and thank
God for he wouldn't be like a Marcos.

I think the people and the opposition should joint hands to
salvage the economy and let the Constitutional process takes
it's course. The problem here is everybody wants to get
involve, has something to say or take it personnaly and
they don't realized the impact of all this commotion to the
economy of the Philippines. Take sample of the impeachment
case against President Clinton. Do you see the opposition
getting the people involve. No. because there is a process
that they believe in. What is the Constitution good for if
nobody follows it or believe in it. Even the Legislators
don't follow it. Then the Constitutions is worthless. The
people should be educated on what is the Constitution and
what it can do for the people and country. Give the process
a chance, we are the laughing stock in the world. A country
without any values. It's not Erap who is bringing the
economy down, it's the people who wants to bring him down
and does not understand the due process of the
Constitution. All those elected Officials who thinks they
know the Constitution, but they don't and not follow it.
Politics and Religion should be separated. History have
shown the down fall of a coutry due to religion getting
involve in running the country. We should learn from that.
Filipinos are one of the smartest people in the world, but
not enough common sense. I'm proud to be a Filipino. And I
hate to see the country go down due to stupidity and
selfishness.

Your reporting have gone beyond what is
called as balanced reporting. It seems
that you have permitted your newspaper to
be used by people who has thier own political
agenda or personal interest. Like for example
Cory Aquino, it is a known fact that her brother,
Peping Cojuanco, has the control of 'jueting' in
Central Luzon during the time of her sister, so
what's the use of reporting their opinion if
it comes from people who are hypocrites or have
double standards. Another example is the depreciation
of the peso, yes its true that the local scandal
has its effect on the peso, but your newspaper does not
report that much of the cause of its depreciation
is because of the strong US dollar. How can we compete if
the US gives a higher interest rate compared to other
countries and the truth is everybody is affected, just like
in Australia where I am now. The news tonight said that
Australian
dollar has dropped again against the US dollar. Ito ay

afford to have it because they had no other problems. the

terrorists more than we should on our own government
scandals. criminals and terrorists now think that there is
no way that the philippine government can fight them when it
has its own problems. filipinos bringing down other

not our president, then beloved our country and stop
whining about petty things. don't go out there and hold
rallies. go back to work and help the economy bounce
back. don't leave the country, instead try to create

he still believes he was in the movie, being the bida. I
hope he will be terminated from his post as soon as
possible.
**@meg-cgy.com (Emilio, Jr)
I think the President (Joseph "Erap" Estrada) must resign
to save the coutry's dying economy, democratic government,
country's unity, by bringing back peoples confidence to the
governemnt.
I just hope that from this, people will learn an important
lesson of choosing the right leadership to the country,
this is particularly to the massive poor majority of the
population, while the rich minority should learn how to
share their fortunes to the massive poor majority, and
realize that the survival of one is relative to the other.

Its a question of credibility, and he lost it.
**@yahoo.com (j)
I am very pessimistic with what government can do to save
the economy from ruin. It has lost its credibility.
Neither President Erap nor his likely successor, GMA can do
anything to save the sinking of the ship named the Republic
of the Philippines. Why??? The components of a robust
economy are not working together in unison. There is
unrest in labor that wants higher wages, which the
employers cannot give at present. Business has lost
interest in business because of an uneven playing field
(vis-à-vis the cronies and friends of the leaders in
government) and the uncertainty of the US Dollar to the
Peso rate. And more than anything else, government is not
credible after continuously failing to meet its promises
and programs for the past 25 years or more. In fine, there
is distrust everywhere and every statement made by a
politician for government is taken with a grain of salt.
Can we blame the people when experience tells them to
distrust people in government for abusing their authorities
and flaunting the very power that was given to them directly
or indirectly by the people? Can we blame the people when
people in government steal money from the coffers of
government and build mansions in plush subdivisions? Can
we blame the people when they see luxury cars owned by
government using security plates to hide them from the
public?
The people just want a government that works and delivers
what it sets out to do. It wants a government that will
treat the taxpayer's money with care and prudence and not
squander it on things that do not have a bearing on the
service that it provides. If the people in government
cannot deliver as one what they set out to do in the
beginning, then they should quit. It should not reach a
stage where the people should rally and raise a cry for
impeachment and resignation.

after all its not Erap's reform program its dadings program
!
**@hotmail.com (Grace)
Hi,
Regarding Erap's Oct. 30 reform program:
It's either Erap is plain stupid or plain stubborn.
Can't he put it in his coconut shell that he is the
problem and that the only solution is for him to resign???
I think he've acted too little, too late...
No amount of speeches and programs can convince us
again that our beloved country will recover unless he steps
down
from power. A lot of scandals and crisis have befallen our
country almost from day
1 of his leadership.
Hope his advisers and cabinet members advise him that for
the the sake of
the country, the most honorable thing for him to do is to
step down. Maybe
only then can we restore our respect for him again.
**@portalinc.com (Ernesto)
Erap must resign for the ff reasons:
1. BW Scandal
2. Existance of Midnight Cabinet filled with sleazy
personalities
3. High Maintenance of Bitches
4. Jueteng Scandal
He will not change I am sorry I voted for him.

whoever become the president these
problem still persist because only few
fears the law. the politician, military,
rich, big businessman are the laws of the land. do you
think these people
declare their true income and pay the
right taxes? limited collection of taxes
the country will not go forward plus the
corruption and red tapes of governemnt
officials. solution is out of reach.
**@ ()
Estrada's resignation is the ultimate solution to resolve
the crisis.
**@dumai.wasantara.net.id (Bagong)
Let's face it the president will not resign and the
impeachment is a long shot, he still holds the majority of
the house. The only losser here is the Filipino people that
being used the other self vested interest politician. Being
an overseas worker I can view the situation in a wider
perspective, I don't care who is the president "i-isang
kulay lang naman lahat yan" the best thing to do now is
just to be united, "kung i-i-impeach gawing agad kung
malabo ang impeachment at di naman magreresign supportahan
na lang ng todo" for the sake of the nation. If this
protest will go on for a long time we will wakeup one
morning we are in the same level of Laos, Burma, Bangladesh.
To all the politician "Maawa naman kayo sa Pinoy" The
Philippines is a great nation and the Filipino is a smart,
good and hardworking people we do not deserve this kind of
ordeal. We gain again the status of being the "Sick Economy
of Asia"
Let's get united,
Bagong Bayani

Cory... Cory... Cory...
**@hotmail.com (Juan)
No, and neither will his resignation. It is only when
cooler heads prevail and the people start calming down that
we can halt our free fall. The media has blown it out of
proportion and instead of calming people down has further
instigated them in the guise of "journalism". The church as
always is interfering again in matters of state, the epitome
being that of the cardinal questioning the moral ascendancy
of the president to lead, given his own criteria he himself
should have long resigned. The opposition as expected, like
a blood sucking vampire is riding this expose, smelling
blood and going for the kill at the expense of the economy.
Rest assured they are prepared to further plunge our country
into an economic abyss just to put pressure on the president
so as to install themselves in power.
We are tired of ALL you politicians, Erap was right in
saying "weather weather lang iyan" (and boy, he sure did
follow his own advice), for we know that even if he resigns
and replaced by no matter who, it will still mean the same
thing for us, just new hungry masters out to enrich
themselves at the country's expense. "Open secrets" are a
plenty these days, but there is one "open secret" that the
opposition forgets to mention, and that is that all
politicians and gov't officials have taken bribery in one
form or another, used their powers for personal gain and
that all of them are out there just to serve themselves,
their kins and their friends.
Now if Singson is really honest in his expose and is trully
remorseful, then he should tell alL he knows, not exposing
only juicy tidbits about the president. He should expose
all his friends, political allies, and even himself as I am
sure there is more than 1 can of worms. Wether his
allegations are true or not, he is out there for one simple
reason, he either didn't get what he wanted or is merely
saving his own neck. We understand his situation, but
please save us the dramatics and the "remorseful" act, we
are not stupid, we know better.
The solution? Maybe we need to do a French act, line up all
past, present and greenhorn politicians and government
officials and execute them one by one. I forgot to include
all the leftist, rightist, fundamentalist, capitalist,
religous sect, and even throw in the media. Basically
every group claiming to represent the people, because the
reality of it, it is only power and money that they are
after. Maybe only then will the new crop of leaders that
will emerge take us seriously, fear, respect and listen to
the people. Obviously I am being sarcastic, but it just
shows how grave the problem is.
Estrada is merely a face out of many, many have done worse
before him and I am sure many still will afterwards. The
only change I think we will see is that his successors will
treat there friends much better and be more careful in
hiding their spoils. As for us simple Filipinos, it will
still be a choice between the lesser of evils every
election time, maybe we should just vote for the least
known or "nuisance candidates" the next time. Life will
simply become harder and harder, and we will continue to
carry the country's burden until our backs break or until
someone with a true vision and a sincere leadership comes
along. As for me, it is a good thing that I believe in
God, in Heaven and that I am not immortal, for at least I
know that I will eventually die, meet my Creator and
hopefully reside in Heaven and get some rest, for I do not
want to wait forever for the Philippines to get out of the
hellhole it has buried itself in. Is the Philippines
hopeless? maybe not yet, and in a way this events might
have served us our wake up call.
So to our leaders, if you think we are gullible and stupid,
think again, we are merely asleep and we know what all of
you have been doing, change now or face our wrath when we
awake.
**@excite.com (tyron)
It is very clear that the people of the
Philippines and both local& business sector have totally
lost faith on him.
Now he wants reconciliation with the Vice President for
what?It comes out that he is now asking Arroyo to do his
program for him. Now,what is his role?
So the conclusion is,he becomes useless
and...Its time for him to "go".
**@dellnet.com (Carolina)
Mr Estrada's last ditch effort to make reforms is a day
late and a dollar short. He is the root of the problem. So,
therefore he has to go and the sooner he does it the better.
The Philippines is a beautiful country with a lot of
potential for prosperity if honest, non corrupt, civic
minded, and business savvy officials are running the
country.

Stand corrected.

Mr. Estrada have to step down for the sake of his
countrymen. The crisis that's going on right now in his
country is all his fault.
**@ ()
Let us not be fooled by another show of Mr. Estrada. Mr
Alfredo Lim is a corrpt official also. When he was still
Chief of Police, he used to received bribes from all
sectors of business. When he was Mayor of Manila, he used
to received a big bulk of money from underworld operatios
of drugs and prostitution. Well its an open secret to the
Chinese community. That Lim and Lacson was involved in
kidnapping with the blessing of the devil himself Mr
Estrada. For this Halloween Mr President, your face is the
most appropriate one so don't bother wearing anything. Ang
kapal ng mukha mo. Sometimes you have to make your own
decesion and I hope you do it now. As a good Catholic, you
should admit your mistake. But please to the Filipino
people, don't let Vice-President Arroyo be our next
president. Its better to have the Supreme Court Justice to
sit down as President. We have so many choices with the
likes of Mr Joker Arroyo or Jovito Salonga. In the name of
the Good Lord, Jesus Christ, please admit all your mistakes
and resign....for the good of all Filipino.

Erap should resign and let Macapagal take over...
**@alpha88.com (Oliver)
This knucklehead does not get it. He is really a stupid
president. We do not want his reforms. Estrada is part of
the problem, so we want him OUT!!! As simple as that. He
should have done these reforms a long time ago, it just
shows he doesn't want to do it.
Two words for you Mr. (Stupid) President:
Go away!!!!
**@hotmail.com (josie)
i don't believe that the president's economic reforms will
work at all..first of all, from afar and reading the
newspapers objectively, it looks to me very much like he
wants to bribe the oppositions such as Macapagal, Acquino
and Ramos by offering them top positions in the
government....making Lim to ensure that things will be
carried out is no good either...because Lim can be his
unkown tuta...Mr. Estrada have the makings of Marcos...i
can, but only, blame the people of the Philippines for what
happened to the country...they should have voted for
somebody who have the patriotism, intellegence and dignity
to be a president...not someone who is a hero in the movies
only...people should remember that this is real life and not
a movie...and Mr. Estrada is very much a human
being...before he is elected as president...people already
knew his flaws...but because of naivity or stupidity...they
still voted for him...it is so frustrating!!!!!
why can't we find someone who will truly love, care and
serve the country? why can't we find somebody who is like
Lee Kuan Yew who is so patriotic that the country
benefited..if not all..but at least most of it?...look how
Singapore is now...one of the most economically rich Asian
countries... we have more resources than Singapore..but we
are much, much more poorer than Singapore...and that's
because we always elected officials who are smooth talkers,
slimey and corrupt...
where did the sacrifices of our heroes such as Jose Rizal,
Aguinaldo and the other went? ...to the dust?...what is
happening to our people? ...are we so poor that we have
lost our national pride? ...it is so frustrating!!!!
it will be hopeless...unless we find someone who can really
lead and not be blinded by money, money money!!!!
**@prodigy.net (Alfonso )
With almost all the promises of Erap unfulfilled, withthe
people under unprecedented hardship, the economy in the
worst predicament, corruption, croninisim shatering the
political scenario, monetary and fiscal structure in very
shaky situation, the trust of the people nowhere and the
social and religious fabric in shambles ggravated by the
jueteng and other forms of gambling flouring everywhere,
the forst amd first and foremost alternative is for the OA
President is to stop believing that he is still in the
center stage of a cinematic screen and
move and act decively by offering his immediate and
unconditional resignation
with ifs and buts he is truly a
Filipino with heart, soul and conscience
Not sooner or later but now.
**@hotmail.com (Lissa)
Solved?!? How can it be solved if he (Erap) is still in
power?!? Sya yung 'in-question' at kanyang mga cohorts, I
don't think his solution would end the problem!!!
**@hotmail.com (al)
The problem with this whole hogwash masquerading as a
reform program is not necessarily the message but the
messenger. It comes too little and too late.
And nowhere is there any attempt to confront the whole
issue squarely and in a forthright manner as the case
should be if indeed the President feels that
these accusations against him have no bearing. Instead we
get clumsy attempts to muzzle if not completely railroad
the general sentiment of the people.
Now comes this mea culpa and
I-promise-to-do-better-if-you-let-me-stay-on-as-your-Preside
nt hand-wringing plea. It just doesn't wash anymore!
Come on, Mr. President, we deserve better than that. You
and you alone (okay, plus your mistresses and those
stinking characters whom you call your friends)
are the cause of all this mess. The earlier you disappear,
the better for the country. There is no other alternative
because the people want you out.
We sure get the message loud and clear but we don't want
the messenger.
