President Estrada is the problem. He says he is for the
masa but in reality, he has chosen to let 75 million
Filipinos suffer so that he can continue to support all
his friends and illegitimate children. The President of
the country is supposed to be a leader, and indeed, Estrada
has lead us to a bleak reality. The pathetic speech with
added intimidation leads us to conclude that Estrada has
once
again said something, but will do the exact opposite. Do you
all recall his " Walang Kamag-Anak, Walang Kaibigan" speech?
He said one thing, then did his best to support his friends
and relatives. The Philippines has suffered enough, we no
longer wish to be
the laughing stock of the world. If Estrada
has any courage, he should resign.
**@hotmail.com (nancy may)
the common ground speech last night was done in bad
taste.its really unfortunate that we have a president who's
unfamiliar with running a country that he let his advisers
made a fool out of him again. i suggest he be sensitive
about the country's welfare, and just resign or else
everyone should expect a gloomy xmas.

Joseph Estrada should resign immediately. How can you trust

even without saying any word his followers will do anything

Why is the reform will not work, even
Ramos and Arroyo will join Estrada?
Because Ramos when he was president,
how can he didn't improve the Philippines
then? And why when Gloria Macapagal was

in my own opinion ,we need to change our
attitudes in politics not by changing our
president.majority of these people
who are so vocal for the empeachment of our president were
the one who voted him in this position .when there personal
interests are not met then they
demand for another president to whom they think they can
control .let us examine ourselves before making judgments
to our president .

Clearly, this reform would not help the economy of the

I think Corazon Aquino, Fidel Ramos and Cardinal Sin are
the persons who have done a lot of damage to the Philippine

Cory Aquino and Fidel Ramos's family did a lot of looting

Impeachment is the only way out for the current
president. He should submit himself to a thorough and
unbiased investigation inorder to prove or disprove the
accusations being leveled to the presidency.
Viewing the events from overseas, it is definitely
disturbing. I was even planning on making my home back in
the Philippines. Graft and corruptions should not be the
standard of governance in our country. While we can not
completely rid the system of such evils, a good leader
should set an example to the young generation.
If money is our problem, the government should honeltly
pursue the recovery of the so-called Marcos ill-gotten
wealth stash. The government should concentrate on the
money's recovery to help boost our sagging dollar reserves.
Jueteng is here to stay. It is as old as the Muslim

deteriorate. I have been to Mindanao --- the Lanao

Muslims.

That the Filipinos must act now to rethink, refocus and
recommit their efforts towards a new Philippines is
imperative if we as a nation have to prosper.
We first have to accept and create change. Change from the
way we think, what we think and how we must share our ideas
without any shade of ego or personal agenda.
It's time that we open our eyes and use our mind in
selecting the leaders that can bring about radical change
and create an atmosphere that will move our country
to prosperity and peace. There are strategies that can be
implemented to achieve what we want as a people. We just
have to have the right leaders to show us the way.

You still haven't learnt from what had happened in the
past. You are easily fooled by false promises and I don't
blame if the economy of our country is not improving
because the president is just incompetent to run the
country. Because of your stupidity, you are now suffering
the consequences which should not have happened if you used
your critical thinking in choosing the right candidate
during the 1998 elections. You should blame yourself
because you chose Estrada and you have been tolerating him
for the past 28 months about his wrong way of leading our
country. Are you still going to wait for another 28 months
when you are already starving to death before you should
stand up and speak up to impeach this president? Don't be
stupid. Enough is enough and we have already seen that
Estrada is not the right person to lead the Philippines. We
have already seen the results of his leadership and I think
it is time to move on and find another person who could
lead us properly. Erap is not "para sa mahirap" but Erap is
"para maghirap." We should have had realized this before but
we are just so stupid . I thought that the older Filipino
people are wise enough because they know a lot of things
and they know better in choosing especially for their kids
but why did they made a big mistake, in choosing the right
person to lead the country? Isn't that a funny contrast?
But what can we do now? The damage has been done. All we
can do now is try to save our country especially our
economy and let us hope that it is not yet too late to do
that. We should always remember that in choosing the right
person/s to lead the country, we should choose them by
heart and not because the candidate can give us money
during elections and, we should not be easily fooled by
their promises because promises are just made to be broken.
In ending my opinion about what is happening in our country
today, I would just like to deliver a short message to Mr.
Estrada.

crooks, immorals and thieves. I also hope that the members

not become an accessory to Mr. Estrada's hold onto power.
His remaining in the position will only do harm to our

joseph estrada does not have the intellectual wherewithal
to run a democracy, much less one with so many cultural
quirks as the philippines. Worse, he does not possess
enough (or any?) sense of dignity that will compel him to
quit even as he is way in over his head in mistakes. He
will never understand that the issue is no longer jueteng,
or misused taxes, or excessive gambling, or the blatant
misappropriation of people's money to cater to his wives'
whims - the issue is now Erap's governance itself. But he
just will not get it!
Rallies and counter-rallies won't make him step down.
Maybe you need a coup - but only if no less than a patriot
with a vision for the people emerges as the next leader.
All the other clowns currently in the front lines have the
same hidden agendas and skeletons to protect in the closet.
How pathetic for the philippines.

I don't think so....He lack intelligence, leadership skills
to run the gov't. This is in addition to Jueteng scandal,
corruption, cyronism, incompetence. Only people who lack
intelligence, people who benefitted from him support him.
This is the worst year we suffer from time of Marcos.
Resign Mr. President!!!!

To solve the problems of our country, perhaps, we should
first eradicate from our vocabulary and the political scene
this word "opposition". This word has created problems
instead of solutions. It seems everybody who aligns
himself with the opposition thinks his job is to oppose
everything the other fellow says. The opposition does not
only oppose but also pre-judges the other fellow. They
assume they are right and the other side is always
wrong. This mindset will lead us all to nowhere.
Instead of opposition maybe we should practice more
"cooperation" and "check and balance". Remember that
our
objective as a nation is to achieve the best for our
country in all areas---political, economic,
spiritual,morality, etc.
We live in a democratic society. We fought long and hard to
achieve and preserve democracy. We drove a dictator to
exile in defense of democracy . Let us practice it. Let
us follow the rule of law. Let us have faith in the very
institution that we all cherish.
Let us not pre-judge. Let us not take the law into our own
hands just because the other fellow does not measure up to
our personal expectations and standards. Let us have faith
in the democratic principles that we fought for.
God himself does not pre-judge. He gives the sinner many
chances to repent. God did not dismiss (did not ask for
resignation) the prostitute, the tax collector and the
thief. God did not pre-judge them. God gave them a
chance. All three passed the test. If we believe in the
power of prayers, we do not have to take the law into our
own hands. Let us not get carried away by our good
intentions. Remember we are not God.
The challenge to the "opposition" is to provide solutions
to problems. The opposition must cooperate with duly
constituted authorities. The opposition must exercise
"check and balance" If the opposition had done a good job
then these problems we face today would not be upon us.
I believe the opposition has failed to do a good job. To
demand resignation from President Estrada is merely to ask
for blood. It does not, ipso facto, solve problems.
I have not heard the opposition offer a single concrete
solution to problems. What is their solution, for
instance, to the peso/dollar problem? What is their
recommendation to eliminating or minimizing graft and
corruption? What is their solution to eradicating gambling?
The Filipino people asks the opposition to offer
solutions. Do they have some? Are they capable of solving
our problems? Are they interested in advancing their own
personal interests in the guise of national interests?.
You will notice most of the losers in the last
Presidential election are now jumping up and down to try to
take the driver's seat. Are they offering solutions or are
they busy trying to get themselves installed in power.
Already the Vice President is preparing to act as
President. Is this national interest or personal interest?
The challenge to the opposition is to do better than the
fellow they are opposing. Unfortunately, they are no
better. They have nothing to offer but themselves. What
are they worth?

With the way things are going it seems that Malacanang
officials has lost the moral ascendancy to govern most
especially the soon to be impeached Prez Erap. This is my
first time to react and I chose the Inquirer to express my
hatred and bitterness of our present system.I also feel
that of all the newspaper, your company does'nt fear no one
in exposing this bunch of crooks and I congratulate you for
that.Going back, I also watched the senate hearing and I
don't like this gentleman K. Tatad I think he's one of the
pres. Erap supposters in tagalog, I referred to him as
"tagahimod ng puwit ni prez" to gother with the two lady
senators, and all of the assholes in congress that is
causing delay in the impeachment hearing. It's high time
that the prez should resign. We cannot afford to have a
leader who is a self-confessed Gambler, Womanizer, and who
has no brains(hirap na hirap nga sa pagbasa ng ingless eh!)
**@isite.net.au (Fatima)
While I watched him make his statement that night, the
thought that came to mind was, "He's desperate." His props
are falling apart, but he just doesn't get it: he's the
problem and he must go. He ought to realize that people
have long lost their appetite for palliatives--as what his
so-called reform program really is.
We've seen how two years have wrought so much damage by one
man alone--the ouster of that same man is the only solution.
It's the ultimate catharsis for a country in the throes of
economic and socio-political agony.

the message of the president was a clear
shallow presentation / proposal of what he / they will do
for the next days to divert the attention from the

obviously, he was not able to intellectually answer the
concrete
and credible allegations thrown at him. the speech and the
announcements worsened the situation
against him / them (the administration).

The president is just one example of our country's corrupt
officials. Leaders should give a good moral and honest
example to people for them to imitate. A people doomed to
disintegration is but a product of the kind of government
we have. The people should order the government now to
create structures to eliminate graft and corruption. I
insist...Estrada resign!
**@ ()
Mr. President, we're not as dumb as you are. You're
irritating most of our countrymen. As I was reading your
speech, it was like reading a nursery book. As per the
other people who gave you support, as what is written in
your speech, you paid them all. For my less fortunate
countrymen, you're just burying yourself more. If you
received bribes just for you to attend the Pro-Erap
rallies, speak up and tell everyone that you received money
from the government. In this way we can start cracking on
all corrupt officials. We can't survive with what we have,
what we need is a Messiah now. With all this corrupt
politicians, we're going down to the drain if we don't act
quickly and swiftly. Let all our voices be heard. Mr.
Estrada, stop making excuses. Everybody knows but you
really have the nerves to deny everything. Let yourself be
guided by the Holy Spirit and not by greed alone.

I think we Filipinos do not know the true meaning of
nationalism. And in that miserable state how can we
contribute towards recovery?
Is it merely a question of who will leads? Our "leaders"
boast of their political experience and their political
education. Surely they know the constitution which they
themselves pass. For the accusations against the President
let the constitution determine what's due. That is rule of
democracy as well.
I am no Erap fan. Infact, I didn't vote for him. But he is
in fact the President-elect. We see the rule of democracy
when he was chosen by the majority of the Filipino people.
I am no political genius. In fact I am thankful I'm not.
But I believe that recovery is not solely dependent on the
leaders but moreso on the people governed. If we do not
have faith in our own government, how can the rest of the
world have faith in it? If we do not have faith in our
leaders, how can people from other nations respect our
race? Sometimes, act by act we destroy our country without
knowing it.
Even if Erap is ousted out of his seat today, the next
leader cannot in fact promise immediate recovery and
economic splendor. This next leader will implore the
Filipino people's cooperation towards national recovery for
indeed a country's progress is in its own peoples hands.

President Estrada made a good speech but I think that the
government is still good on generic proposals but lack in
vision and execution of strategies and reforms. Its a
promise committed like the one he said when he made his
first speech as a president. Decisions were decided out
from emotions and not pure thinking at heart and I think
that they forgot the key component of making everything
happened which is the full implementation of the law(look
at how Singapore implement their law).
He is pure at intention to help people but lacking in
vision and skills to make it happen. He is better off be a
figure in a funded organization helping people in actual
but not as a president of a country. Morally, spiritually
and intelectually, I think we need somebody else...but the
people should not complain now as it is their fault for
voting him.
**@ai.ac.th (Roland Kevin)
Our embattled President has already done his part on trying
to reconcile with the opposition inorder to have a united
efffort to solve the sagging economy. What is so
dissapointing to me is that the opposition is not at all
concerned about our country's welfare. They just want the
"power" at the palace especially Arroyo. When interviewed
by Mel Tiangco, she can not even say or elaborate what are
really her plans to save save the economy. What the people
wants to know from the opposition is "what you have to
offer and how?". I think that the opposition should focus
more on this rather than calling on Erap to resign.
**@revolution.net.ph (omar, jr.)
the lower house (committee on justice) should take action
immediately on the complaint for impeachment filed
recently. By convening for a political solution, said
committee will start proceeding, in effect, will instill
security and confidence on business community. That will
solve the crisis and, more importantly, economically.

The ongoing investigation at the Senate regarding the
jueteng scandal that is hounding no less than the president
of the republic should be handled with utmost
impartiality. The investigation clearly shows that
senators who belong to the administration party act as the
president's lawyers. Bear in mind that like the president,
the people voted these senators to serve the public's
interest and not of one person only. Be objective in
handling the current investigation so the people may know
the whole truth. Avoid partisan politics and be loyal to
the people and the constitution we believe in. You owe to
the people to unearth the whole truth about this issue.
Whether there is a relative truth or falsity with the
accusations against the president, let us know the people
who voted and trust you to represent us in your institution.

Who is qualified to replace Erap? Everybody has their own
agenda? Not sure why the past president's are mingling with
the government? I think the Filipinos should be gratefull
now that the freedom of speech are being followed.
they should also come to their sense that it's themselves
are being hurt on all of the bad comments. Instead, if they
are that smart, they should work towards providing a
solution. Let the constitution that was created to take
care of the issue.
The opposition should stop all these nonsense and work on
solving the crisis.

I know when i migrated here in the United States of America
and swore in to get the citizenship, I lost all my rights on
being a Filipino. But, my color and my heart will always be
in my native land. Eveytime, something bad happens to the
Philippines, we cannot stop to wonder when our country will
change. I'm 36 years old now and still nothing positive had
happened to our nation. The rich becomes richer and the
poor, poorer. If you're not in politics or connected to
one, you're nothing. Elected officials, who were picked by
the people to serve them, are not doing it for the people
but for themselves, getting richer and powerful and
preparing themselves in the next election even if he's only
been in the office for a few months. I feel sorry for our
country. My dream when i grow old and retire is to go back
to my native land, but now, I'm thinking twice if it is a
nightmare and not a dream to settle down and die there.

I do not believe any more so called
reforms would be able to revive the
economy under Erap. The reason is
that he has lost all credibility and moral
ascendancy. No matter what he does now,
and whatever the results of his impeachment
case, the people no longer believes him.
He is not even given the benefit of the doubt
because of a long history of dishonesty and
corruption. The business sector has given
a vote of no-confidence in him and an increasing
number of people are clamoring for him to leave office.
If the current state of affairs continue, the Philippine
economy
will crash. And this is mainly because of this man.
If I had my way, I'd also charge him with economic sabotage.
His refusal to resign is sinking us deeper and deeper into
the
economic quagmire he placed us in.

I suspect that the majority of Erap's "masa" are on to him
but are still hoping he will deliver on his promises. That
he has been accused of being a womanizer, a drunkard, a
gambler, a bribe-taker, and incompetent leader does not
really mean any difference to them because these only mean
their idol is as human as they are.But I suspect that their
patience is wearing thin and there will be hell to pay when
the dam breaks. Sadly, when that time comes, the whole of

believe now is the time for all Filipinos to stand up and
be counted.

Any reform in mind of Erap is a hoax and a cover-up.
Why? Simply because the problem is him and nothing but him.
As long as he sits as President, no reform can ever be
realized with his kind of mentality and his kind of
governance which is already deeply rooted in him and
appears to be incurable and incorrigible.

Anyong-haseyo from Seoul! From where we are the view of
what is going on in there is a bit foggy -- all we can do
is bite our nails, spend on overseas calls to constantly
check on loved ones and keep hooked on PDI. It could be a
bad time to be away from home.
Still, it is easy to see that probably the President is
indeed slightly sincere in wanting to implement reforms in
his government. His personal survival, along with some of
his more significant associates and family members hang by
this thread. His whole clan's name and reputation is what
is at stake -- and boy, what a big tribe it is. But see?
He has decided to make a sacrifice of some of his interests
and even close allies. It is not a blessing to be named
Lucio at the moment. Given a chance, he would probably try
his utmost to be true to his promise to "clean his room"
after learning the price of disobedience. Poor guy, the
last time i saw him on the ABS-CBN site, he looked so
enervated. This phantom is really scaring his cholesterols
away -- the good along with the bad. I wonder if this has
also achieved the almost impossible -- weaning him away
from his favorite Johnny Walker Blue Label. After all, he
has to remain sober and alert more than ever. I suppose he
is shedding his callouses hardened by gambling too. His
fingers must be itching red with lack of practice.
Still, his desperation is showing -- flanked by his fiercly
loyal "dogs" he just sent a shockwave that he is well
prepared to use all resources available to cling to
power. Shame, shame -- tsk, tsk...he has met his wily
equal in Singson. I suppose history is really difficult to
memorize. Marcos regime at the edge of its grave has shown
that this strategy does not always work.
Well, he may be sincere -- but can he truly discipline his
cronies and clan? Avarice is a power larger than man.
Give in to greed too often and it will possess you
totally. When you think you are lord over money, it lords
over you. The temptation is too much and "hiya and
delicadeza" would be the last things to be experienced by
those who weren't sent directly to the oast. They are not
the ones undergoing purification and they will always find
a way around the President's reforms. Someone who has
feasted on the lotus just can't remember the way home...or
will keep looking back.
However, the problem lies in the fact that Filipinos have
always been too forgiving. To allow our race to be
ravished by conquistadors and tyrants over and over for
centuries is almost divine mercy. We are a nation that is
too tolerant and probably tire too easily. If we don't get
results soon, and the waiting game becomes too protracted
there's a possibility that the whole campaign will be
abandoned. I hope not.
Still, there are many who -- while outraged to the bones by
what is unfolding -- prefer to simply proceed with their
daily routines and not get involved. With the economy in a
downward spiral survival is a battle by the hour. Maybe
Erap will win this war. Poverty has the citizenry in
shackles. I just pray the benign forces will stay with us
always.
