A pleasant day to all. I, one of the grade 6 students of
St. Theresa's College Q.C. would like to share my opinion
about the "jueteng scandal". For me, I will support
President Joseph Estrada because I know that many of the
officials especially Vice-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
wants to take the place of our President. I pitied Gov. Luis
"Chavit" Singson because he couldn't blame anyone, so he
point fingers to everybody and acuse our Presisdent. He did
not even think the consequences that will happen to our
country. I hope that President Joseph Estrada will last his
presidency until 2004.Thank you for your time to read my
opinion!!!

It is sad that the focus of all the
mass actions has seemed to remain only
at the issue of the alleged 'Juentengate'
issue. I hope that the rally organizers
can elevate the level of awareness of the
Filipino to look beyond the issue of the
jueteng but realize that the president
has not done any good to the Republic.
There is no sense of leadership and a
government with no direction. It is also
time to realize that people should not
vote based on popularity but base on the
candidates track record and government
platforms. Only then, can we say that
the movement to oust Erap has been a
success.

I believe the "storm" that the office of
presidency is experiencing right now is
entirely attributable to two major factors,
to wit: (1) the people who voted for Erap;
and (2) Erap himself. The people who voted
Erap has proven wrong in their thesis that
to change the Philippines, we need a "change"
(para iba naman attitude) in the President;
Erap on the other hand has lived up to the
expectations of the skeptics who did not
vote for him - that he will only bring to
Philippine society one thing - CHAOS.

Just hearing the news every night after
work already made me realized how
rotten our political system is. The
success of a country or even organiza-
tionslargely depend on its leader's
ability to leadthe flock. A leader who
lacks initiative, discipline,and self-
control cannot lead well. Thus, making
the whole system and flock in vain.
It is not enough that the leader has a
heart to lead the flock, he must also
be mentally and emotionally equipped.
I believe that President Estrada has a
heart to help the poor, but mentally and
emotionally he's not.
1 month is still a short time to deter-
mine if the president will last. It

**@mozcom.com (Mindanao Business Council)
A STATEMENT FROM THE MINDANAO BUSINESS COUNCIL
Too High A Price For Mindanao
The series of scandals, started by the "jueteng" issue had
eroded the confidence in the President's leadership and
integrity. This political debacle triggered the economic
crisis highlighted by the drastic depreciation of the peso
- making it the worst performing currency in the world
today.
Over the past few weeks, the lack of confidence has even
worsened despite the President's move to relinquish his
Chairmanship of the Economic Coordinating Council,
dismantle cronyism, and initiate reforms in the airline and
telecommunication industry. The overriding effect to the
economy was nil and insignificant.
As business and economy continues to worsen, many
organizations have expressed their lack of support in the
current leadership. Amidst this scenario, we see the peso's
alarming devaluation, the rise of bank interest, the
contraction of investment among local and foreign
businessmen.
We, the members of the Mindanao Business Council, recognize
the great contribution of the Estrada Government to Mindanao
and its efforts to seriously rehabilitate our region.
Because of this, we had not taken the drastic alternative,
which other institutions and organizations have immediately
adapted. We had explored a number of strategies, kept our
options open that the reforms being instituted might turn
the economy around and restore business confidence in the
island and the country.
But today, we realize that the price that has to be paid in
this crisis is too high particularly for the people of
Mindanao. The sector that will absorb most of the impact of
this kind of environment will be the poor, especially those
in agriculture, which is the lifeblood of the Mindanao
economy. The Minimum Basic Needs Index showed that 14 of
the 20 poorest provinces in the country are found in
Mindanao. The negative impact is even compounded by the
security and the perception problems of the island.
We cannot anymore continue to deny that the current crisis
that plagues us is brought about by the lack of confidence
in the leadership. The Economic Managers themselves
admitted that the abrupt depreciation of the peso and the
hike of interest could be traced to political instability.
The alarming resignation of a number of respectable people
identified with the present administration further confirms
our decision that indeed there is no other better
alternative than a change of leadership.
The ultimate outcome of the problem is clear: the longer
the President stays in power, the greater will be the
long-term damage to our economy. It pains us in Mindanao to
take such a position; but the overwhelming majority of our
members realize that price to pay is too high for the poor
and the millions of Mindanaoans and the Filipino people.
We, the members and the stakeholders of the mindanao
business council support the call for the resignation of
the president.
MBC is the umbrella organization of all chambers of
commerce in Mindanao, major industry associations and
federations, and has established active partnerships and
linkages with various NGOs, the academe and civil society.
It is the primary voice of the Mindanao business community
and an effective catalyst for the region's economic
development.

This will be a disgrace to Philippine politics and
government, if President Estrada reigns or is forced out of
office this soon. We must all remember that a person is
presumed to be innocent until proven guilty. Even a
country as big and powerful as the United States had to go
through a long process of impeachment to impeach the
president. You didn't have Democrats changing to
Republicans because Clinton was a demmocrat. This is
childish !!! These senators and congressmen/women who were
elected by the people to serve and supposedly protect the
people's interest, must not forget the primary and utmost
obligation to the people - to serve and help govern. Not to
quit because they don't like the president.
The Filipino people must learn a lesson in democracy, be
patient. Let the process of impeachment continue, let the
president prove himself in the superior court and the
people and allow the House, Congress and Judicial branches
of government decide if President Estrada must be impeached.
These government officials and prominent business people to
whom the country looks to and to guide the Philippine
economy and political crisis back to normalcy - actually
Resigns and abandon their post and positions, must no
longer be elected to positions that hold such great
responsibilities.
The political climate and now the economic climate in the
philippines is a disgrace and an embarassment to the
international community. Let's be proud being a filipino
let's respect people's rights to prove himself innocent,
before judging and convicting.
Let us not be like a bunch of grade school students
disagreeing on small issues, let's uphold the constitution
and trust our elected respectable senators,
congressman/woman and judges to do the right thing and
lastly, will someone please tell our beloved vice president
to please be patient and wait until it is her time to sit on
the president's chair, but for now keep things going and
operating in the government.
May god bless the philippine officials, the filipino people
and lastly the philippines.

I think everyone should give the jueteng hearing time to
know if Erap is really guilty or not. The only problem is
that most Filipinos has lost their trust in the President
and so are the investors -- what will happen to the
Philippines then? We have experienced so much problems
during Erap's 2 years term, I think it would be much better
for us to vote again for another President instead of Erap
resigning. Snap election rather than Resignation. The only
risk we have, which we always have, is that when this
politicians became President they have the nearest
possibilities to loose hold of their moral and spiritual
conduct -- "Power corrupts...Absolute power corrupts

she was a number one critic of the president. But since her
husband was given a position as undersecretary then she hid

lack of credibility of the witness.all the people knew what

Will We Last Long?
That is now the appropriate question for everybody. The
poll today asks if Erap will last for a month with all the
crisis he is facing. But its not only Erap who faces
crisis. I am also facing a ggreat deal of them. I'm under
pressure since I started facing life alone in college
depending solely on my DOST scholarship grant. Plus the
news almost all times about the peace and order of my
native province, Cotabato. It's giving some ideas of going
somewhere very far away from this land and be free of all
this mess.
But what is the point of escaping? Are my problems only
affecting me? I guess no! My aches are in its most personal
level. Far little than what our economic status now is
experiencing and the political turmoil we are in.
And as for now, these mess are not enclosed in our country.
People around the world are hearing a lot, they pity on us,
maybe they are laughing on us. Why would they not?
Filippinos are really good. They admired us for the courage
we showed during the Edsa Revolution. And we succeeded. We
have thrown oout the dictatorship and have set our wings
free again. But we are not successful enough to go on. The
democracy we have fought for has gone to its point of
madness. People hungered for freedom for so long and the
time that they have it, they devoured on it. Pity that it
seems we forgot the hardships we had before and has allowed
this thing to occur. The past two administrations have not
solved the problems of conflict in Minadanao to its lasting
effect. People continued to firearms since when they
surrender, they are given money but are then neglected once
and again. The corruption (in any way)did not stop when the
dictator was thrown out since he has left some kittens in
the wilderness. THese kittens are now at loose. People has
grown lazy of going into any rally thinking that our has
ended during the Edsa Revolution. Time has eaten up the
promises of Edsa Revolution. People are now at thier
sufferings more than ever.
Now, with this situation that we are in, with the
juetingate, with the devaluation of our peso, with the
peace problems here in Mindanao, with the privitization of
government, these all calls for another great unity of the
Filipinos. But will this really end all? And not make
everybody a fool of hoping for the best and getting the
least at the end?
I'm just asking, I'm tired of orchestrations....
**@ (john)
President Estrada is a disgrace. How in the world Filipinos
can tolerate a leader who takes millions of money from
gambling lords, brags about his many mistresses, call

If he quits, he'll be tagged as a quitter and lose the

which is affected by "gossips or here-says". No amount of
restructuring will ever erase the stigma of being accused

but himself, his politically-unwise taste in friends and
associates did him in. I pity the masses, myself included,

Estrada, will hold on as much as he can.
Anybody will do for that matter. That is just to stand firm

**@avalonasia.com (Albert)
I believe that Estrada will be impeached. He is one
stubborn and delirious person who will never see the
writing on the wall. Perhaps, his seemingly intellectual
deficiencies include that of reading. For whatever reasons
it may be, he is more willing to fall deeper into disgrace
by waiting for his imminent impeachment. On one hand,
having him resign is way too easy for a thug to get away
with all the crimes he's committed. However, impeaching
him, which he so deserves, will only bring us closer to
ruin. Either way, we are still the losers. And that's the
sad part of it all. He started by abusing his presidency
for personal gains and pleasure while slowly and carelessly
redirecting our entire economy into dire straits. If he
resigns, he goes free with all that he has gained. If he
is impeached, the entire process will take some time and by
then our economy will have collapsed. Yet, it is also no
guarantee that our country will be able to take back what
Estrada has criminally gained. Just take a look at how
we're doing with his criminal predecessors, the Marcos
family. As they say, its a choice between the lesser of
two evils. Right now it would be in the best interest of
the country for him to resign. But with his goon
mentality, it will hardly happen. In this case, we should
just prepare for the unpredictable and it's not going to be
easy.

**@ (Eugene)
Well, Estrada didn't because of his wonedrful performance.
Let's vote Fernando Poe Jr. para maging masaya.
**@ ()
Estrada must go!
There is no question about it.
Impeachment or people power, there is no
reason for him to stay in office.
But the question is where do we go from where he will
leave.
The problem with Philippine politics which
reverberates to the economy is we don't
have strong institutions, we have not matured politically
and our value system has gone worst.
EDSA was not able to change it!
The presidency should be regarded as institution
and not mere position to hold on to power.
People should learn (or be taught) to vote for issues that
is critical to the nation and not for personality. I wish
we have the two party system where the best and the
brightest run for office, when political convictions and
ideology can matter.
Our value system should change. It is a hopeless case when
people dignify a leader whos' into everything a goon is.
a couple of years ago, in one of our seemingly hopeless
analysis of how the Philippine politics and economy can
change,
someone brought up the idea that revolution is the answer
so people will change their values. Another alternative is
to wipe out all adults, so a new value system will be
taught to the younger people who will be left.
Another, is to have all the politicians (local and
national) in a common gathering, plant a bomb and presto,
they are all gone.
After all what is the most appropriate description of a
politician from The philippines..
And they deserve death. Start with Erap.

i hope estrada will now resign coz it's is the best way i
think that he could ever do at least for the benefit of the
whole filipino society and if he ever do that he now made
the best ever decision he have ever face in his whole life
**@yahoo.com (ROSCO)
Defections, rallies and other political pressures might not
be effective in having Erap resign ASAP but it will surely
help him find his conscience and cut cleanly ( I hope).

Si estrada ay napaka kapal ng mukha, kung ayaw nyang bumaba
, baka ang diyos na ang magpa baba sa kanya sa puwesto.
Walng hiya talaga siya. Sana naman maawa siya sa pilipinas.

Mr. Estrada should stay until his term is up. The people
should give him the chance to prove himself & defend
himself just like President Clinton. We should not listen
to what people say against him. I would like to see the
evidence and I want to hear him. I'm very discouraged to
what his party (defectors) did to him. They should have
acted professionally and should have stood with the
President through this ordeal. During the election, I
didn't want President Estrada to win, I wanted Mr. De Villa
to win but now i'm just feeling so sorry for President
Estrada on how people & his friends are treating him. I'm
hoping Mr. Estrada will survive in his ordeal. This
gambling thing for me is not a big deal as I know all
politicians have their own dirty laundries in their closets.

With the recent resignations of his cabinet officials and
members of the senate and house of representative, Erap now
has a chance to fill in his favorite co-stars in the movie
like Nora Aunor, Paquito Diaz, FPJ to various government
positions.
God bless the Philippines.........

Dear Editor,
I'm a regular reader of your newspaper. however, I really
noticed that you are biased against Pres. Estrada. Your
commentaries already convicted him by publicity! Let us be
fair and let the due process runs its course regarding the
charges against the pres. And let's not make "gatong" to
teh already muddled politics and economic condition of our
country. I appeal to your sense of patriotism not to be a
tool for further destruction of our country. Because
unknowingly our vibrant media is doing that...I'm not for
Estrada but the way I look it is that majority of the
people is still behind him. If the president was forced to
resign,I beg the Lord to spare this country of blood shed
once the Filipino masses (silent majority). begin to speak
up for the President!

I am in Malaysia and closely monitoring the events in our
country which i can dubbed as a "Mayday, mayday this is
Erap i am innocent."
In my personal opinion, the "scandal" which brought down
the President's to its pit is the worse ever he had
encountered. From the very first day he took office until
up to this day he was not in total control of the country.
For the sake the of country and the economy he should
resign now rather than wait for the impeachment trial
verdict. Investors has lost its confidence and economy is
plunging like hell. It is a wise decision if he resign
ASAP.

Filipino people are already aware of the deterioted
economic and political status of the country.

since i live in switzerland i haven't heard of good things
that estrada gov't. is doing. he's incapable of governing
the country. look how he's dealing the on-going war in
mindanao. where are the projects he promised to uplift the
living conditions of the poor majority??? enough of the
promises!!! i think the best decision he should do at this
point in time is to resign and let the capable politicians
govern the country.

Our President is "manhid". He did not get the message from
the people and from God itself. He did not understand that
our God is galit na rin, imagine dalawang bagyo hit Manila
at sunod-sunod pa. Dahil daw sa masa, sabi niya. pero ang
tanong na intindihan ba ng masa ang nagyari ngayon. I'm
glad i did not vote for him. hindi ako kasali sa dapat
sisihin.

Two more senators and Erap is out. A Merry Christmas to us
all! The senators who are not for the president are: the
original Lakas Barbers, Cayetano, Flavier, Guingona,
Legarda, Magsaysay and Serge Osmena. That's seven. Then
the former Lammp Biazon, Coseteng, Drilon, Jaworski and
Revilla. Then the true independent Roco. That's 13 all in
all. All we need is two more. Who will it be? The
upstanding Pimentel? The guardian of reform Honasan? The
brigada man Sotto? Or the lawyer to all Ponce Enrile? Who
will be the violinists on the Titanic? Graft buster
Miriam? The illustrious gentleman from Bulacan Ople? The
two who took the cookie from the cookie jar Sonny Osmena
and Tessie Aquino?

For me, it is about time for President Estrada to give up
his post. He will never be able to accomplished his tasks
if no one cooperates with him anymore. Insisting that he
still has the support of the common "tao" is another insult
to himself. All he can do nowadays is to praise himself and
saying back tirades to those who oppose his administration.
And that is an insane or crazy attitude that a person can
show. President Estrada is no longer and will not be the
leader that these common "tao" is needed. As I've seen
today on TV those thousand people converging in EDSA, no
doubt that there will be a 2nd People Power to come in the
very near future. If that will happen, our economy will
going to dive deeper into worst. Again, Mr. President,
"Tama Na! Sobra Na! Mag-Resign Ka Na!!!
**@info.com.ph (Erlie )
There's no doubt Estrada is on the way out. It 's only a
matter of choice among the various exit scenarios. And
when. Resignation would be the quickest and ideal as we
don't have the luxury of delaying arrest of our economic
slide. But with the swelling of the anti-Erap ranks in
Congress and in Senate, I'd like to see impeachment push
through, as long as it can be fasttracked. It would be good
to see him grilled and face up to the tough questioning the
nation will witness.

i'm not pro-estrada and i'm one of those who want him to
resign but i don't think gloria macapagal is the right
person to replace the position.

Let's hope not to Miriam Defensor-Santiago on the list of
defectors. If that will happen, this is the first time to
see more faces than balimbing.

With what is transpiring nowadays with our political &
economic setup, I feel Erap will not last a month
anylonger. To save himself some face, he should resign now.
**@hotmail.com (armando)
I think Estrada will last the month
because, knowing him, he will fight
to death no matter how bloody a coup d'etat
can be. He don't care even the whole
world know already he is Lord of drug
lords, Lord of gambling lords, Lord of
chinese kidnapping lords, Lord of
Ó. For him everything is in place,
like his right hand chinese drug lord
stationed at Dagupan City, Renato Ang,
His gay drug lord son, Jude for greater
manila, his billions and billions of
pesos keeper, Lucio Tan at PNB, not to
mention the high cost of mainting his
mistresses mansions running at billions
after major renovations, plus the companies
he organized for them. No, its too late,
everything for him is set. He rather kill
all oppositions, drop an atomic bomb
at Ilocos to punish Singson, and also
to make sure Imelda give him a huge
chunk of the Marcos Loot before he
finish his term. If the people only
knew Estrada have been courting Imelda
for some share in return for soft
treatment as you know Imelda is also
a killer. And last but not the least
Estrada would like to prove to the
poor stinky filipino people that voted
for him he is not bobo.
