San Francisco, California
IN CONJUNCTION with the celebration of 100 years of Filipino
presence in the Archdiocese of San Francisco: A Journey of
Faith, on December 15 the Bayanihan Community Center/Filipino
American Development Foundation, in partnership with St. Patrick's
Parish and Bay Area Pampang Associations, will proudly present
the first Christmas Lantern /Parol Festival in San Francisco.
A Community Lantern / Parol Stroll will be inaugurated this
year in the South of Market, along San Francisco's Mission
Street between 6th and 3rd Streets, from Bayanihan House to
St. Patrick's Church. Different parols, including those made
during the workshops by the local community and those brought
from the Philippines, will be displayed and carried during
the Community Parol Stroll on December 15 at 5 p.m.
Giant lanterns and parol-making is a cherished industry in
San Fernando, Pampanga in the Philippines. The organizers
of the Community Lantern Stroll invite you to attend parol-making
workshops between October and December in the spirit of bayanihan,
and join us in the community procession with your parol on
December 15. The stroll will culminate with a community program
and holiday food tasting of Philippine delicacies where restaurants
and homemakers from the Bay Area will have samples of their
holiday specialties.
Everyone is invited to participate. The success of the first
Parol Festival is a testament of the Filipino community's
strong presence in the San Francisco Archdiocese. Halina at
ating salubungin ang Pasko dito sa America. Let's celebrate
Filipino Christmas in America.
