THE AMERICAN Legion War Memorial Commission (ALWMC) will
commemorate A-Day, the 60th anniversary of the Leyte Landing,
the "last great sea battle of World War II" in October
1944 to liberate the Pacific.
The Federation of Philippine American Chambers of Commerce
(FPACC) is inviting members of affiliated organizations and
veteran and their relatives to attend the special exhibit
which opens on October 20. FPACC is a major partner of the
ALWMC in commemorating A-Day, and its counterparts in Australia
are doing the same.
The commemorative exhibit will feature for the first time
ever in their original uniforms: Gen. Douglas MacArthur, Admiral
Bull Halsey and Vice Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto.
The exhibit will also include various award medals from that
Pacific campaign. Meanwhile, a formal commemorative ceremony
will be held on October 22 at the Herbst Theatre from 7 to
9 p.m. The keynote speaker is Major General Antonio Taguba
while the special guest is Philippine Ambassador to the US
Albert del Rosario.
The dress code is military dress for all veterans and barong
or business attire for all non-veteran volunteers and guests.
Better yet, come in vintage 1940s attire if you have one.
