Rommel G. Bitavarra

Full Name: Rommel G. Bitavarra
Nick Name: Mel
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Status: Married
Location: Singapore
Occupation: IT support executive
Years Spent Abroad: 2 years, 6 months
E-mail Address: brommel@ncs.com.sg

I NEVER dreamed of working abroad, but due to our country's poor economy, I decided to work here in Singapore.

I was a computer/network engineer there in the Philippines for over six years before I worked here in Singapore as an IT support executive under the Ministry of Education. I am earning five times more than I did in my previous job. I enjoy working here but I still prefer to work in the Philippines if only I can get even half of what I am earning now.

Singapore is a very nice and safe working place, but still I cannot get the "peace of mind" that I have when I am in Philippines. When I started working here in Singapore, I learned the meaning of the old saying, "There's no place like home."

I have been working here for almost three years, and what I really miss (apart from my family) is my place -- Baclaran. I miss everything about it -- my friends and every little kid that walks around making that endless noise.

I wish that when those little kids grow up, they would have a peaceful, safe and better life than what most Filipinos now have.

I also wish for our country to have a good, strong leader, just like what they have here.

Let's put aside envy, hatred, greed and anger so we can have a harmonious life.
