Voice of an
Angel
Born in Geneva, on March 8, 1997 to Filipino migrant workers,
Nicanor "Bono" de Guzman and Waonhor "Joy"
Pangulima, Lica de Guzman is the newest singing child sensation
to hit the Philippine Community in Geneva.
Lica started singing at the age of 4. At 5, she joined the
Adelea 2 Music Kids Academy of Geneva. In school she has often
been requested for a song or two whenever there was an occasion
or a festival. Besides singing, she is also gifted with the
ability to dance and act in theatre performances.
" In 2004, a breakthrough came for Lica when she was
invited to perform at the famous annual Carabina Festival's
"Caribanakids" in Crans-Celigny. The tiny 7-year
old stunned the crowd with her angelic voice, winning the
hearts of her audience, including her fellow performers and
artists. It was a like "baptism of fire" for her
as the only child who sang a solo.
On vacation in the Philippines in August 2004, she next took
"Sunshine Davao" by storm, this time with an awesome
performance for a benefit concert for Bantay Bata Kids 163
at Gaisano Mall. Released on the same day was her first album
with her carrier single "A Dream in my Heart," with
a video version a la MTV. Lica also performed in SBD Jam and
Halo-Halo Special, two popular local shows, and toured popular
radio stations - her songs reaching out to the common tao
through their portable transistor radios in far-flung barrios.
As part of a string of Independence Day string of celebrations
in 2005, Lica also performed in the show of noon time matinee
idol Randy Santiago and singer Rachel Alejandro and at the
Philippine Community Independence Day Kermesse at the St Nicolas
de Flue Church.
But
Christmas has been special for Lica. In December, 2004, she
was selected to join Sonia Grimm, a well-known singer in Geneva
and other parts of Europe, to do back up vocals on a Christmas
CD. Its release was another success.
In December, 2005, Lica - "la petite perle philippine"
- was seen on Television Suisse Romande (TSR 1) as one of
the guest child singers in the Christmas special presentation
of "Les coups de coeur d'Alain Morisod." On Christmas
day itself, Lica was a surprise guest in "Rêves:
A new musical Show for Christmas!" The television special
Christmas Dreams - with famous musical artists like Phil Collins
-was shown on December 25, 2005 at 20h25 on TSR1, a co-production
of French-speaking Switzerland Television and Foundation Little
Dreams.
Two well-known European producers have already shown great
interest in Lica's talent and have approached her parents.
Her father Bono insists that her priority right now is still
her education.
