Inquirer.net breaks into
top 20 most visited sites

INQUIRER Interactive has breached the elite list of the 20 most visited Internet news websites in the world.

In the Dec. 28 rankings of 100hot.com, Inquirer Interactive became the only Asian site, other than The Times of India, to reach the Internet news big leagues, climbing a notch to number 20.

The Internet website of the Philippine Daily Inquirer now shares the biggest page view turnout in the world with sites of respected media organizations, including CNN, MSNBC, USA Today, Fox News, Washington Post, CNet, Discovery Channel and Yahoo News.

The site even bested other noted Web news services, including the Wall Street Journal and the San Jose Mercury News to reach this unprecedented ranking.

This week’s increased page views were attributed to the real-time multimedia coverage of President Estrada’s impeachment trial. In alliance with GMA Network Inc., Inquirer Interactive provides streaming Internet audio broadcast of the proceedings through radio station dzBB and a real-time video transmission of the trial via Cable GMA, the network’s cable news service on Home Cable.

A text-only running account of the impeachment proceedings also contributed to the higher visitor turnout for the site, as it is now the second most accessed page after the home page.

GMA Network is the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s partner in the upcoming multimedia news service INQ7 Interactive.

100hot is the first directory to track the Web’s most popular Internet destinations category-by-category. Its weekly rankings are based on the Internet habits of more than 100,000 web surfers around the world. Data is collected on a daily basis, with weekly reports available at http://www.100hot.com.
