Minimizing modem
disconnections
By Jerry Liao

IF your modem goes offline frequently, it may be due to a temporary loss of service from your carrier, or downtime from your ISP. To lengthen the time the modem will go offline after the carrier is lost, change the modem properties. Here's how:

1) Open Control Panel

2) Double-click on the "Modems" icon

3) Click on "Properties," then "Connection"

4) Click on "Advanced"

5) Under the "Extra Settings," type S10=10

6) Then click "OK," "OK" again, then "Close"

This procedure will enable your modem to stay connected even without a carrier for up to 10 seconds.
