Backing up, restoring
Windows registry
By Jerry Liao

ONE of the most important files in your Windows program is your registry. When your registry corrupts, it's almost certain that you have to reinstall your Windows program. So it's better that you create a backup copy of your registry and learn how to restore it back when needed.

You can backup the registry in one of two ways:

l From the Command Prompt

1. Boot to Windows98's DOS

2. Go to the \WINDOWS\COMMAND directory

3. Run SCANREG /backup

l While within Windows98

1. Run SCANREGW /autoscan

To restore a backup, you need to be in Windows98 DOS.

1. Go to the \Windows\Command directory

2. Run SCANREG /restore

From here you can select which one you want to restore.
