'e-Lifestyle' brings news,
views and entertainment
on the Web

GLOBAL networking leader 3Com Corp. has announced the launch of e-Lifestyle, an Internet-based promotion designed to celebrate the countdown to the year 2000 in Asia Pacific with a host of specially created online content including games, shopping and contests.

From now through Dec. 31, 1999, Internet users will be able to log on to 3Com's e-Lifestyle website and enjoy a wide variety of news, views, information and online activities including the following:

  • e-Games--gateway to a host of action and leisure games. With a different game tournament every three weeks, the first featuring Tetris, e-Games offers weekly prizes such as the 3Com US Robotics Message Modem to high scorers. Players can check their games scores daily; the top 10 weekly scores will be invited to a Grand Millennium Finale with a chance for players in each country to win air tickets to the United States.
  • e-Shop--links to the web's best shopping sites including fashion, computers, electronics, art and decor, as well as exclusive special offers for e-Shop visitors in partnership with select on-line traders.
  • e-Leisure--online news, radio and entertainment from around the world. Visitors can win prizes for submitting links to their favorite sites.
  • e-Gadgets--a look at the latest in consumer electronics and developments in the world of personal computing and the Internet.
  • e-Hot--an interactive bulletin board for users to make new friends and discuss what the millennium means to them. It also features a special section for users to post a photo of their pet online and to vote for the web's most photogenic pet.

The URL for e-Lifestyle is http://www.3com.com/e-lifestyle.

Although accessible by anyone with an Internet connection and a web browser, e-Lifestyle was conceived and designed in Asia, to appeal to Asian web users. The complete site is available in English and Chinese.

''The e-Lifestyle campaign is 3Com's way of celebrating the millennium with all our customers in the Philippines,'' said Kenneth Palacios, 3Com channel manager. ''As the pioneer of some of the world's most advanced Internet access technologies including the award-winning 3Com US Robotics range of high-speed modems, we have a deep understanding of what the Philippine consumers want from the web--and with e-Lifestyle, we are delivering it to them.''

3Com has invested heavily in developing and promoting the site, which will be updated frequently with new features and competitions. ''We invite users to tell us what they would like to see and do on e-Lifestyle,'' said Palacios. ''Visitors can pick and choose the kind of activity that suits their interests, ranging from voting on the 'pet-o-genic' contest, to participating in the weekly game tournaments, to live interaction with others in different countries to share their thoughts on the coming millennium.''

Palacios continued: ''As consumers in Asia increasingly look to the web for entertainment and leisure, they will begin to demand high-speed digital access technologies such as cable and xDSL, 3Com will be poised to deliver these solutions in Asia, as local infrastructures mature.''
