BOOK+AUTHOR=FAME
By Riegelle Arceo
St. Paul College, Pasig

SOMEONE went to our school. She is famous and great. When she accepted my invitation, I wanted to tell everyone but I didn’t want to be boastful or mayabang. Anyway, our visitor was Ms Carla Pacis, an award-winning author. Yes, an author! (OK, for the non-book-lovers I’m sorry if you thought if it was the President). We were all excited to meet the writer of the book "Owl Friends," because we read it for our book report. (The book is published by Cacho Hermanos Publishing House.--Ed.)

Because I was the one who invited her, I made the introduction. I had to squish a multitude of fears (stage fright) and walk on the stage and face more than 300 Grade 4 students. I choked and spluttered out my long odyssey of lines and finally sat down to listen to Tita Carla.

She shared with us how she made "Owl Friends," how long it took her to write it and other stuff. She was very patient to us during the open forum even when we asked her personal questions. We were at first awed to meet someone famous like her. But she put us at ease when she accidentally dropped something. She is human like us, after all. We really enjoyed her talk.

She even autographed our books. All 300 of them! It thrilled me to know that Tita Carla is an avid book reader like myself. Hmmm, maybe someday I could be an author like her and also become famous.
