Five Pinoy kids are zapped and turned into Cartoon
Stars on Cartoon Network
FIVE Pinoy kids--all of them residents of Metro Manila--have
won Cartoon Network's "Get Tooned Too" loyalty program
and will star alongside each other in an animated short. These
kids have been awarded the ultimate grand prize of seeing themselves
as a cartoon star on their favorite network.
A specially assembled crew from Cartoon Network was
in Manila on July 8-9 to shoot live action video clips of the
winners at a local studio. Winners Kara Bodegon, Zachary Balthazar
Datu, Mark Norbert Guiab, Aileen Grace Sotyco and Miguel Uy became
Switch, Mr. Big, Spex, Lightning and Racer or collectively as
Flash Force created by the Network.
The five kids were assembled by Cartoon Network at
a professional studio with a full-sized blue screen Chroma background.
One at a time, each kid was asked to act out their respective
animated character's movements. The footage later served as guide
for Cartoon Network animators in creating the 90-second animated
short.
A Hollywood-style "The Making of . . ."
interview followed after the shoot where the kids were asked their
thoughts about the shoot and what they feel as future cartoon
stars. At the end of the shoot, the production crew and Cartoon
Network's Flash Force Five and their parents celebrated with a
wrap-up party where Dexter and Dee Dee of Cartoon Network's "Dexter's
Laboratory" were on hand to give the kids exclusive Cartoon
Network gifts.
The "Get Tooned Too" cartoons will be aired
on Cartoon Network from Jan. 1 onwards. Kara, Zach, Mark, Aileen
and Mikee will be one of the first toons to be shown on Cartoon
Network in 2001, and will effectively share the moment with Dexter,
The Powerpuff Girls, Scooby Doo and other Network toon stars.
