At 2:00 a.m. today, the eye of Typhoon "BUTCHOY" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 690 kms east northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar (13.7šN 132.0šE) with maximum winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph. Forecast to move north at 19 kph.
Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over Bicol region and Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northwest and west will prevail over Bicol region and coming from the southwest over Visayas and Mindanao. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the northwest with slight to moderate seas except during thunderstorms.
