Army completes new roads, water systems in Gumaca

LUCENA CITY, Philippines—The military turned over four farm-to-market roads and 24 deep wells to village officials in Gumaca, Quezon Saturday, a regional military spokesperson said.

1Lt. Celeste Frank Sayson, spokesperson of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division based in Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal, said a total of 10.4 kilometers of barangay roads and 24 water supply systems would benefit seven remote villages in Gumaca.

The projects, which cost P13 million, were completed under the “Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan” and “Kalayaan Barangays Program,” government programs that aim to transform former insurgency battlegrounds into peaceful and developing areas to spur economic growth.

The Army’s 564th Engineer Battalion, of the 51st Engineering Brigade, and the 76th Infantry “Victrix” Battalion, of the 201st Infantry “Kabalikat” Brigade, built the projects, Sayson said.

He said the newly completed village roads and water systems are part of the P23-million infrastructure projects that aim to benefit 12 villages in Gumaca.
