ANOTHER year has ended while a new one has just begun. The new year prompts people to ponder about breaking old habits and correcting old attitudes. They usually want to start with a clean slate by making New Year's resolutions. But how many of our stars make and believe in them?
TV host and actress, G Toengi believes in New Year's resolutions. ''My resolution this year is to smile more and try to make people happier. Last year, my resolution was to be more active in sports, to be more athletic. I was on a diet but whenever I saw good food, kumakain ako. I really controlled my urge to eat! I also feel that it would be better if everyday you try to improve yourself, not just because it's the New Year.'' Actor Jake Roxas looks forward to a calmer year this year. ''I've spent the better part of my show biz career being misunderstood by a lot of people because of my frank comments about questions and opinions asked. Now I've gotten the message so my New Year's resolution is to go with the flow and not go against the tide. Or better yet, stay on neutral ground.'' Singer, TV host and comedian Michael V uses his New Year's resolution as a tool for motivation. ''Magandang gawing guide para ma-motivate ka so naniniwala ako sa mga New Year's resolutions. Minsan hindi ko natutupad 'yung mga resolutions ko pero I don't trash the idea,'' Michael V shares. ''Dahil kung down and out ka na, you have to remember yung pinangako mo sa sarili mo noong nag-umpisa yung taon, and that would serve as a boost para magawa mo yung gusto mo. ''Natupad naman yung resolution ko na maging punctual. Hindi na ako nale-late, minutes na lang.'' Actress Mylene Dizon feels that change can happen when there's a sincere desire to do so. ''Yes, I believe in resolutions but not just for the New Year, everyday you have to change what you want to change in you. It shouldn't start on the New Year, but when you seriously decide to change. I always say that I'll stop biting my nails, pero wala pa rin akong kuko hanggang ngayon! Actress Aiko Melendez doesn't believe in New Year's resolutions anymore. ''I used to make resolutions but everytime I plan things, hindi yon ang nangyayari. Kahit hindi naman New Year, kung gusto mong baguhin yung mali mo, puwede naman. Everyday is a New Year! The Pinay (an all-female vocal group based in San Francisco) member Angelica Abiog believes in kindness everyday. ''My resolution is to always recognize the people around me and to consider each moment as a precious moment. Don't take anyone for granted, appreciate everyone.''
Maylene Briones, labelled as the ''inay'' of Pinay because of her protective instincts, says that she wants to relax more this year. ''I think all of us in Pinay have worked a little too hard and I think we need to stop and smell the flowers. I want to make sure that I prioritize being still, relaxed and at peace.'' Maylene's Pinay groupmate, Irma delos Santos, nods in agreement. ''I want to really appreciate the people I have in my life because they bring me to where I am. I think the most important part of living is the (kind of) relationships that we make.'' Joey Benin (Side A/bass and vocals) shares, ''Every year lagi kong sinasabi, I'll be organized! I'm organized but not in the way I want to. Kulang pa 'yung pagiging organized ko.'' Ernie Severino (Side A/drums, percussion and vocals) grins, ''Susubukan kong bumilis sa pagkilos at pag-react! Mabagal ako kaya lagi akong nagka-kape. Another resolution would be to help my wife more in cooking. My wife cooks well so I don't make enough effort to learn cooking. This year, I want to learn how to cook--fast!''
Naldy Gonzales (Side A/keyboards and vocals) wants to be more patient. ''Sa grabe ng traffic ngayon, New Year's resolution ko yung maging malamig ang ulo ko kapag nagmamaneho ako. Umiikli ang patience ko sa ibang mga drivers.''
Kelly Badon (Side A/lead
guitars and vocals) quips, ''Dati na akong mabait, ano pang
babaguhin ko? Hindi, resolution ko, babawasan ko na ang
pagpapaputok ng fireworks. Kung magpapaputok ako, yung
safe na, lalayo na ako. Hindi New Year sa akin kapag
walang fireworks! Noong nasa Singapore ako dati,
(iba pa yung banda ko), doon kami inabutan ng New Year, walang
fireworks kasi bawal doon, parang hindi New Year!''
