Three productions celebrate
the month of the Holy Rosary
By Remy M. Umerez

OCTOBER, the month of the Holy Rosary, is a special time for the Catholic community. The focus is on the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God.

amen.jpg For the past three years, the Catholic Church has been honoring the Blessed Trinity in preparation for the Great Jubilee. In line with this preparation, Ivory Records has released a series of children's albums aimed at fostering the Jubilee spirit of peace, joy and freedom.

This year, just a week before the Virgin Mary's birthday, ''Amen, A Child's Guide for Praying the Rosary," was launched. It is an educational audio cassette pack for the family to make children understand the stories behind the mysteries of the Holy Rosary and to enlighten adults on the deeper meaning of this beautiful prayer.

History

''Amen'' makes the family rediscover Jesus as the Savior and Evangelizer and helps both adults and children get to know Jesus and the Blessed Mother, as well as the history of the Catholic faith in ways that are easy to comprehend.

The Rosary Theater at the Level 5 of the Shangri-La Plaza Edsa is another poignant tribute to the Blessed Mother. It is a spectacular Light and Sound show highlighting over 30 scenes in the Life of Jesus. It is an animated diorama on the Gospel story, using lights, voices, sounds, an inspiring musical score, special effects and hundreds of miniature figurines in a 50-seater theater. It highlights the 15 mysteries of the rosary.

Lydia de Leon Sison and her son Gerard are behind the concept. Gerard made most of its over 300 statues from scratch, recorded all its male voices, designed and created its intricate sets and movements and sang the songs as well as wrote the script. The concept was inspired by the family tradition of a grand nativity in their home which developed through three decades.

Mission

The Rosary Theater is produced and maintained by the Miraculous Medal Foundation with the mission to spread the Gospel and Devotion to the Holy Rosary. It hopes to open more theaters in the Philippines. It is open everyday and there are shows every half-hour from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Finally, "Magnificat," the musical play on the life of the Virgin Mary, is being performed again this month all over the country. Its inspiring songs speak of Mary's perfect acceptance of God's will, and of her Son Jesus' own acquiescence to his Father's decision to offer him up as a painful sacrifice for the salvation of mankind.

These three religious productions--an album, a diorama presentation and a musical--make October a more spiritually significant month. Up
