Aquino: Classroom shortage problem solved before 2014

MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III in his third State of the Nation Address said that he sought to ensure that problems in the education sector in the country would be resolved during his next years in office.

He told the nation that he planned to solve the deficiencies in textbooks, classrooms, chairs and tables.

“Bago matapos ang susunod na taon, ubos na ang minana nating 66,800 na kakulangan sa silid aralan. Ang minana po nating 2,573,212 na backlog sa upuan, tuluyan na rin nating matutugunan bago matapos ang 2012,” he told his audience at the Batasan Pambansa.

He informed the nation that of the 43.61 percent increase in the proposed budget for State Universities and Colleges for 2013 as well as the overall proposed budget for the Department of Education increased to P292.7 billion from 2010’s P177 billion.
