Maynilad official’s house burglarized; P15M stolen

MANILA, Philippines—The president of Maynilad Water Services Inc. lost around P15 million worth of cash and valuables to burglars who broke into his house in a posh subdivision in Quezon City.

Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, theft and robbery section chief of the Quezon City Police District, identified the victim as MWSI president Victorico Vargas, a resident of Ayala Heights in Barangay (village) Old Balara.

Marcelo told the police that he discovered the burglary when he and his wife returned home at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday from an out-of-town trip.

He said he lost P1.8 million and $20,000 in cash; a Mac laptop computer worth $800; a steel watch valued at P30,000; a Cartier watch worth P400,000; and three Rolex watches worth P1.5 million.

In addition, the thieves made off with several pieces of jewelry worth P10 million, he added.

Marcelo said the stolen items were taken from a steel vault inside a bedroom on the third floor of his house.

According to him, he left the house on May 12 while his wife followed him after five days.

They left the house in the care of their driver, Felix Nabat, and a maid identified as Lanie Montreal.

The police said they would subject the driver and maid to further investigation.
