House members show true colors

THE SEPT. 15 news item “It’s Gibo by a mile in House mock polls” is a clear indication of what would happen if those people who have been trying to convert Congress into a constitutional assembly (Con-ass) have their way. It has been common knowledge that most members of the House of Representatives who ran in the last elections to represent their constituents now represent themselves and their own personal interests instead.

If, after the Charter had been changed to provide for a parliamentary form of government, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo runs for Congress in any of the future elections and wins, her allies will surely elect her as prime minister and the rotten administration we have now will be replayed many times over as long as her allies and their greed are kept satisfied.

It is thus imperative that members of future constitutional conventions see to it that those who have held the highest office of the land should no longer be qualified to be head of government, and impose term limits on future heads of government.
