Businessman and opposition leader Jonathan Guardo has launched an infomercial about dengue, which will air over at least two television networks in Cebu City.

The 30-second infomercial features Celestina Labrador of sitio Caduloy, barangay Tisa, Cebu City whose 12-year-old son died of dengue.

Guardo, who refused to reveal the budget of the ads, said the infomercial would air in TV stations which include GMA-7, ABS-CBN and CCTN-47.

The informercial would run for two months or until November, the deadline of the filing of the certificates of candidacy.

Guardo denied insinuations that his TV infomercial was meant to give a push to his bid to run for congressman in the city’s south district.

He added his anti-dengue campaign was not meant to compete with the existing campaign by the city government.

But he said the city’s effort was not enough since 23 persons had died from January to August this year.

He said the fight against dengue should be everyone's concern and not just of the city government because the disease could hit anyone regardless of economic status.

The TV infomercial followed the launching of the opposition leader’s Guard Against Dengue's Spread (Guards) campaign last Saturday in sitio Caduloy, barangay Tisa

Guardo visited the barangay together with volunteer doctors and nurses who discussed the dengue virus and its prevention to the barangay residents.

Guardo said that the campaign should be conducted through the television because of its urgency. He added he decided to do something after several parents had come to him to seek his assistance.

“This is private effort in the fight against dengue. We have to unite regardless of political affiliation. I want to help the city,” said Guardo.
