Dela Serna again among Mandaue’s registered voters

THE NAME of congressional candidate Vicente “Ting-ting” dela Serna has been reinstated in the voters list of precinct 342-A in barangay Ibabao, Mandaue City.

Judge Wilfredo Dagatan of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities granted Dela Serna’s request to have his name reinstated based on Dela Serna’s claim that he was not given due process when his name was removed in 2004.

The Election Registration Board of Mandaue City had deactivated Dela Serna’s name from the list of active voters after it was established that he did not vote in two successive elections – the 2002 barangay elections and 2004 national and local elections.

Dagatan, however, agreed that Dela Serna should have been given due process before his name was deactivated.

With the reinstatement of his name, Dela Serna said a petition to have him disqualified as a candidate for congressman in the 6th district would no longer prosper.

Dennis Manatad, a resident of Gerardo Ouano Street, Mandaue City, had earlier petitioned for Dela Serna’s disqualification because the candidate's name did not appear in the city’s voters’ list.

By law, a candidate must be a registered voter within the area he is running in.
