CALAUAN, LAGUNA -- The son of convicted former Mayor Antonio Brion Sanchez, whose clan had ruled this town for about half a century, is seeking to regain the family’s hold on power after several years of losing to incumbent Mayor Buenafrido T. Berris.

The Commission on Elections provincial official listed Allan Jun V. Sanchez as the National People’s Coalition mayoral candidate for Calauan against Berris of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats party.

Berris was 49 when he finally won the town’s leadership, which was ruled by the Sanchez clan for a similar period of 49 years.

He won the seat from former mayor and Sanchez wife Editha, whose husband is serving life sentence with several others at the National Bilibid Prisons for the double murders of two students of the University of the Philippines at Los Baños and the rape of one of them.

Allan Jun V., one of the sons of Sanchez, gained prominence in the town politics as a consistent leader in the race for councilors for about three terms.
