MANILA, Philippines—Divers on Sunday completed the retrieval of 402 containers of the toxic pesticide endosulfan from the sunken MV Princess of the Stars, removing a major obstacle to the recovery of hundreds of bodies feared entombed inside for more than three months.

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental -- Transportation and Communications Undersecretary Maria Elena Bautista on Saturday said the retrieval of endosulfan, a highly toxic fertilizer ingredient, from the capsized M/V Princess of the Stars is way ahead of schedule.

MANILA, Philippines—An American diver was pulled out of salvage operations at the wreck of the M/V Princess of the Stars in Romblon on Friday for numbness and shortness of breath, a suspected case of chemical exposure that occurred away from the sunken vessel and its remaining toxic cargo.

MANILA, Philippines—Once recovered from the wreck of a ship in the waters off Romblon, the drums of endosulfan should be shipped back to Israel where it was manufactured, a coalition of environmental groups said Thursday.
