DoJ summons accused in Glorietta 2 blast to probe
MANILA, Philippines -- The Department of Justice (DOJ) has issued summonses to mall engineers and government firefighters charged in connection with last year’s explosion at the Glorietta 2, which killed 11 persons and injured more than a hundred others, in preparation for the preliminary investigation.
The accused were also ordered to submit their counter-affidavits for the probe to be conducted by a panel chaired by Senior State Prosecutor Leo Dacera on March 10, 14 and 26.
Ordered to appear at the preliminary investigation are Fire Prevention Officer Reynaldo Enoc of the Makati Fire Station, Senior Fire Office 2 Leonilo Balais and Senior Fire Officer 4 Anthony Grey of the Fire Safety Inspection unit of the Bureau of Fire Protection, and mall maintenance personnel Candelario Vadueza, Marcelo Botones, Jonathan Ibuna, Juan Ricafort, Charlie Nepomuceno, Joselito Buenaventura and Clifford Arriola.
They have been charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries and damage to property.
The charges were filed after police concluded the explosion was caused by a buildup of explosive gases in the mall basement, findings rejected by Ayala Land Inc., which maintains it was a bomb attack.
