Independence Day with Flag, Filipiniana
SM Supermalls all over the country held a simultaneous flag-raising ceremony on June 12 in celebration of the 111th anniversary of Philippine Independence.
In SM City Cebu, mall employees, tenants and affiliates wearing Filipiniana dresses joined the celebration.
The event started with the University of Cebu choir singing Filipino songs, followed by a marching band from the Abellana National High School.
Sherry Tuvilla, mall manager, highlighted the importance of celebrating the Philippine independence.
Cebuana diva Raki Vega sang the Philippine national anthem and “Bayan Ko” after. Balloons in red, blue and white colors were released while Vega was singing the “Bayan Ko”.
Guests also had the chance to have their photos taken in the giant flag made of balloons outside the Entrance 3 of the mall. A mascot parade around the mall was then held for the different mascots of tenants.
A giant siopao and puto shaped in Philippine flag were also displayed at the Foodcourt.
A choir from the University of Cebu serenaded shoppers with Filipino songs at The Northwing Atrium at 6 p.m.
A fireworks display at 7 p.m. capped the celebration.
