Thousands evacuated from ‘Pepeng’
MANILA, Philippines – The national Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) yesterday said a total of 115,061 people from different provinces expected to bear the brunt of typhoon “Pepeng” had been moved to temporary shelters.
Some 8,210 people were transferred to evacuation centers in Cagayan before it was pounded by high winds and heavy rains at around 3 p.m.
In Cagayan Valley, the NDCC recorded 17,330 residents who heeded the government’s call to seek safe grounds.
In Central Luzon, a total of 6,659 evacuees have been recorded; in the Ilocos, 612; Calabarzon, 4,762; and Bicol, 97,731.
