MANILA, Philippines – After undergoing his second angioplasty in three months, hostage-taker Armando “Jun” Ducat yesterday said he would ask the court to let him stay at the Ospital ng Maynila while he is recovering from the procedure.

Ducat, who is facing charges of serious illegal detention for holding 26 children hostage inside a bus in Manila last March, is scheduled to be released today from the Cardinal Santos Hospital in San Juan after 11 days of confinement for an operation that he described as “successful.”

“One of the arteries in my heart was blocked so an operation was needed,” the 56-year-old engineer told the Inquirer.

Ducat said he would file a motion for transfer to the Ospital ng Maynila because his doctors had advised him to stay in a hospital during his recuperation. “It’s also cheaper there,” he added.

Ducat racked up a bill amounting to P318,000 at the Cardinal Santos Hospital, excluding doctors’ fees. His March 6 operation cost him P500,000.
