Sen. Madrigal asks Joey de Venecia III whether his father, former speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., would ever consider testifying at the Senate. De Venecia III says he cannot speak for his father but that “he has nothing to hide.” Madrigal asks in the context of De Venecia speaking with Abalos about ZTE in China at the time of the contract signing.

Lunch or protection?

Sen. Jamby Madrigal moves that San Miguel not be allowed to leave the Senate premises lest he “give us the slip.” Co-chair Cayetano changes tack, inviting San Miguel instead to the lounge to have lunch with them. He accepts the invitation, and asks if his lawyers could go with him. “Your lawyers are welcome. Lawyers also eat,” says Cayetano.

‘Tong-pats’ via email, Madriaga has a copy

Sen. Pangilinan asks San Miguel about the email he allegedly sent to Madriaga, the one about “tong-pats.” San Miguel denies this. Madriaga says he has a copy of the email, and he is asked by Pangilinan to have it printed out.

Madriaga claims the “greedy group” received $1 million in advances, but that this amount was shared only by two people in the group -- Ruben Reyes and Chairman Abalos. He says another $1 million was promised as a “success fee.”

Spot the difference

Comparing San Miguel’s signature on his credit card and that on the photocopied document from Madriaga, Sen. Estrada says they were not handwriting experts. Co-chair Cayetano says they merely wanted to see if there was a big difference between the two, and says that they were indeed similar. San Miguel protests, saying the two were very different.
