MANILA, Philippines—The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has ended its investigation of the Valley Golf and Country Club brawl last year involving members of the Pangandaman and De la Paz clans, but has declined to disclose the results, saying that would have to wait until the bureau submits its report to the justice department.

The NBI had been tapped by Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez to investigate the “real story” behind the Valley Golf incident on December 26, 2008 that resulted in charges and counter-charges filed by the feuding families.

Apart from statements provided by Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman Sr. and his son (and namesake, a town mayor of Lanao del Sur, as well as those of businessman Delfin de la Paz and his 14-year-old son Bino, the NBI had relied on testimonies of “independent” witnesses in coming up with its findings, said NBI Director Nestor Mantaring..

Among the “independent” witnesses were six caddies and four other clubhouse employees.

The government official was later ordered suspended by the club while De la Paz was expelled as member and his children banned from Valley. Pangandaman’s two sons were also banned for life.

Meanwhile, farmer-protesters camped outside the department of agrarian reform offices in Quezon Wednesday said the agriculture secretary should also be removed from his post for allegedly exempting lands from the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).
