Campaign’s over but I gave it a good run

HI EVERYONE.

Unfortunately my US Open campaign has ended earlier than I hoped, but I gave it a good run. The stoppages and long days took a bit of a toll on me but I hung in there and really thought I could make it to the final two rounds.

After coming back to finish my first round on Friday, I struggled to get back into my rhythm and made too many bogeys coming in. Missing the fairways made it tough to save par and before I knew it I was in with a 77—five dropped shots in the last eight holes wasn’t how I wanted to finish.

After that, with the course drying up; the weather clearer, I knew I had to shoot under par on Saturday to make the halfway cut (never an easy task in a Major!).

I put in a lot of time at the range and worked on my short game to get ready for the second round. I was determined to get the job done!

After an early bogey, I bounced back with consecutive birdies, then a couple more and got my round to 3 under after 11 holes. I kept my focus and made some good pars but let a couple of shots slip over the last few. With one hole to go, I was at 1 under, figuring I needed birdie at the last to make it. Turns out that wouldn’t have been enough anyway.

I shot 69 (1 under), 8 shots better than my opening round, to miss the cut by 2. Exactly 60 players made the cut, the lowest number since 1988 (just my luck!). But I am proud of the way I played today, proud of breaking par on the toughest course I have ever played, and proud to have been here representing the Philippines.

It has been a great experience and I learned a lot. I have now played in two Majors and I am learning each day what it takes to be here and stay here.

One thing is for sure: I’ll be back!

Thanks for all your support everyone.

See you back in Manila soon.
