Mass burial for unclaimed bodies set
THE unclaimed bodies of those who died at the height of typhoon Frank last year will be buried on Sunday at the Carreta Cemetery, Cebu City.
A total of 61 bodies had yet to be claimed. Not all of the fatalities were victims of the sinking of the MV Princess of the Stars, said Dr. Renato Bautista, head of the National Bureau of Investigation-Disaster Victim Identification (NBI-DVI) team.
The vessel, owned by Sulpicio Lines, capsized and sank with more than 800 passengers and crew onboard off Sibuyan Island in Romblon on June 21 last year when it sailed into the path of typhoon Frank.
Bautista said they could not determine if all of the 61 unclaimed bodies came from the ill-fated vessel since there were other sea accidents that also happened when the MV Princess of the Stars sank.
Of the 61 unclaimed bodies, 11 were identified through the DNA testing but were not claimed by their families.
Also on Sunday, the NBI-DVI team will be disbanded after the signing of the death certificates of all the missing passengers, Bautista said. /Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
