‘Wowowee’ stampede victims hold rally at ABS-CBN
MANILA, Philippines -- About 70 victims of the Ultra stampede staged a rally in front of the ABS-CBN studio in Quezon City Friday noon.
Led by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), the stampede victims expressed their disgust over what they said was the indifference of “Wowowee” program host Willie Revillame on the condition of those injured during the February 2006 incident.
"Willie Revillame never really cared about us. Kunwari lang concerned siya sa amin pero sa harap lang ng TV ‘yon (He only shows he’s concerned about us but that’s only when he’s on TV)," an angry Vivian Toledo said.
The group also called on the Department of Justice (DoJ) to include the name of Revillame as respondent in the criminal case they filed against the executives of the television network.
Carrying placards, the protesters gathered at the ABS CBN gate on Scout Esguerra Street in the village of South Triangle at around 1 p.m.
Rose Roque, VACC officer, said they intend to hold the rally until 3 p.m.
At least seven security guards and two policemen immediately arrived in the area to maintain order and direct traffic.
