11 killed, 40 hurt in Morocco stampede
RABAT -- A stampede at a world music festival here on Saturday night left at least 11 people dead and some 40 others injured, Moroccan police said.
The dead were five women, four men and two children, police said, adding that a wire fence appeared to have collapsed when the crowd made a big surge.
Some 70,000 spectators had crammed in to see home favorite Abdelaziz Stati sing at the Mawazine festival in the capital.
