MANILA -- Tension briefly gripped mall goers at the Glorietta 2 shopping mall in Makati City after smoke reportedly wafted from one of its cooling systems.

But Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, chief of police, said the people eventually calmed down after mall personnel were able to put out the smoke at the roof deck cooling system.

"Everything's okay now, maybe they panicked because of what happened last year," he said in an interview.

Eleven people were killed and more than hundred injured in a mall blast late last year at the Ayala-owned mall, which police said was caused by a chemical explosion.

Cruz said some of the people at the mall’s Activity Center ran upon seeing the smoke but no one was hurt in the incident.
