Cris Mendez’s mom to VMMC doc: ‘I hope he feels what I feel’
MANILA, Philippines -- Mother of suspected hazing victim Cris Anthony Mendez on Monday appealed to Dr. Francisco Cruz, who brought Mendez to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC), to present his son to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and cooperate in the investigation.
"Wala siyang isang salita, sabi nya ilalabas nya ang anak niya pero hindi
nya ginawa. Hindi ko na alam kung paanong pagmamakaawa pa ang gagawin sa kanya. Sana lang nararamdaman niya ang nararamdaman ko (Dr. Cruz lied. He said he would bring out his son but didn’t. I don’t know how else to plead with him. I hope he feels what I feel)," she said when she went to the NBI to get updates on the case.
Romulo Asis, chief of the NBI Anti-Terrorism Division which is handling the case, said they are now studying if they could file obstruction of justice charges against those they summoned to appear but instead invoked their right to remain
silent.
The medico-legal officer who conducted an autopsy on 21-year-old Mendez is expected to appear at the NBI Tuesday after failing to do so on Monday.
Last August 27, Cris' badly beaten body was brought to the Veteran’s Memorial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The remains bore bruises, particularly on the back of the arms and thighs.
