MANILA, Philippines—He was hurt, that was clear. But Willie Revillame also swung between peeved and furious during Wednesday’s episode of “Wowowee,” in the course of a protracted tirade against colleague-turned-critic Joey de Leon, from a rival program on GMA 7.

Speaking in Filipino and sobbing intermittently, Revillame denied talk of cheating in “Wowowee” (story at left) which, he said, De Leon had used to attack him on TV.

Revillame lamented: “You shouldn’t do this, Joey. I idolize you.” And then he was livid: “Sa ’yo na ang ratings. Akala mo kung sino kang malinis.”

For a short while, too, he sounded defeated: “Subukan mong mag-host ng show mag-isa, araw-araw. Ako, kahit may sakit, bumabangon ako para magpasaya ng mga tao.”

He rallied his followers. “Kailangang magsalita po ako, kahit tanggalin na ako dito.” The studio audience howled in protest.

Joey de Leon did not return Inquirer Entertainment’s calls for a reaction.
