MANILA, Philippines—After meeting noontime show host Willie Revillame the past week, Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chair Ma. Consoliza Laguardia this time had a heart-to-heart talk with comedian-TV host Joey de Leon on Monday.

Laguardia had sought to end the much-publicized bickering between Revillame and De Leon over the alleged cheating in the former’s noontime show, “Wowowee,” aired on ABS-CBN

In their closed door meeting, both Laguardia and De Leon reached an agreement that the latter would desist from any verbal tirades against Revillame. After all, De Leon said, Revillame had apologized last Saturday for his televised outburst last week in which he singled out De Leon for falsely accusing him of cheating. Revillame also vowed to be more “open” to criticisms.

De Leon is a co-host of the longest-running Philippine television program “Eat Bulaga!,” on GMA-7, a rival of “Wowowee.” He responded in his own televised monologue asking Revillame to “explain first before complaining” the glitch that occurred during his “Wilyonaryo” game portion. Instead of showing the number “2” that represented the P2 million jackpot prize in the game winning box, which Revillame clearly identified, the number “0” appeared. Televiewers were then shocked to see Revillame holding the number “2” that came from the same box.

Meanwhile, after De Leon teased that the Senate should look into this “Hello Pappy” scandal instead of “Hello Garci”, the Chamber showed it was really serious in launching its own investigation into the fiasco, which has placed television game shows into scrutiny. Sen. Mar Roxas II, chair of the Senate trade and industry committee, filed Resolution No. 111 to look into the matter to protect “the millions of Filipinos (who) watch these game shows and send text messages or purchase products so they could become contestants, hoping that they would win and uplift their lives with the prize money.”
