(UPDATE) ‘Wowowee’ host Willie Revillame explains
MANILA, Philippines -- Television host Willie Revillame explained.
Revillame, who appeared towards the latter part of his noontime show “Wowowee” on ABS-CBN Tuesday, acceded to a demand by Joey de Leon, comedian and host of “Eat Bulaga” on rival GMA Network, to explain allegations of cheating in the “Wilyonaryo” game segment of his program.
At the same time, Revillame apologized anew to De Leon whom he accused of trying to stir up controversy as the August 20 “Wilyonaryo” episode found its way into the Internet, which showed Revillame fumbling in revealing where the jackpot number "2" was placed.
Revillame said that a technical glitch caused the mix-up in that episode of “Wilyonaryo.”
He said that all boxes in the game contained 0 as the base number, including one that had the P2 million jackpot.
He said this was done to allow the contestant to decide whether to bargain or to risk choosing the number on the box.
He denied allegations of cheating and said that management had decided to revise the design of the game to prevent a repeat of the incident.
Revillame said initially that there was nothing to explain after De Leon sought an explanation of the incident in response to the “Wowowee” host’s initial tirades against him.
Ma. Consoliza Laguardia, Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chairperson, mediated last week between the two hosts who assured her that they would stop their verbal attacks on national television.
The Senate and the House of Representatives have expressed interest in investigating the “Wowowee” incident.
