Lady Falcons sweep it
MANILA, Philippines - Adamson completed a UAAP title sweep with a 64-50 Game 2 triumph that dethroned Far Eastern University in the women’s basketball Finals at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons held the Lady Tamaraws to only six points in the payoff period to claim their first championship since winning back-to-back crowns in 2003 and 2004.
“We made an adjustment with our defense in the fourth quarter and that’s when they (Lady Tamaraws) struggled,” said coach Emily Vega, three days after her Lady Falcons won the series opener with a 58-51 decision.
MVP Amby Almazan shot 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to power the Lady Falcons to their fifth overall title.
The Lady Tams tried to mount a comeback in the second half behind Allana Lim, who topscored for FEU with 13 points. FEU’s rally, however, suffered after Raiza Palmera, their second best scorer, was forced to leave after five fouls in the fourth quarter.
"I am happy with the awards I got but I still owe it to my teammates, “said Almasan, who still has one remaining year in the UAAP.
