Maasin City’s woes: Lack of rain, water
MAASIN CITY, Philippines—Residents are bracing themselves for a possible shortage in potable water because of lack of rain, which has resulted in reservoirs drying up.
Nestor Geraldo, Maasin Water District (MWD) general manager, said the people would suffer from low water levels in the next few days because the amount of rainfall in the area was lower than those in previous months.
Geraldo said the number of consumers had increased, but the city continued to rely on a single source of water.
“Aside from the low rainfall, concessionaires have increased with our only source of water, the reason why we are experiencing low water in our taps,” he said.
He said the water district had stopped accepting applications for water connections.
Geraldo, however, said this would be temporary because the water district would tap another source.
