Mayor asked to use police power to solve water row
MANILA, Philippines--Residents of BF Homes in Las Piñas City have asked Mayor Vergel Aguilar to use his police powers to facilitate the entry of water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. in their area.
In a letter to Aguilar, officers of different homeowners’ associations in the Las Piñas portion of BF Homes said: “The only way for us to finally have water supply in our homes is through your lawful exercise of police powers.”
The homeowners claimed BF Homes Inc. had long resisted the entry of Maynilad despite the developer’s inability to provide water to residents for the past two decades.
They also reiterated their refusal to pay an additional P10 per cubic meter of water consumption in exchange for right of way.
The residents also said the Parañaque and Muntinlupa portions of BF Homes already have water pipes, adding that this came about when local officials of the two cities invoked their police powers.
Aguilar’s chief of staff, Mark Santos, said negotiations are still ongoing between Maynilad and BF Homes Inc.
