MANILA, Philippines—The state-run National Power Corp. advised Bulacan residents on Thursday of water releases from three gates of the Angat dam in the province.

Napocor spokesperson Dennis Gana said that as of 12 noon on Thursday, three gates of the Angat dam were opened at 0.5 meter each, to prevent an overspill caused by rainfall.

"Angat dam will continue opening gates... every hour until the target opening of ... one meter for each gate is attained. Volume of water being released is 500 cubic meters per second," he explained.

He said the volume of water released from Angat, however, would not cause flooding that would necessitate evacuation.

But Gana added that Napocor issued notices using its mobile and fixed warning systems to inform the downstream communities, anyway.

Water releases from the Angat dam would flow into the rivers, waterways and streams in the towns of Padling, Matictic, Norzagaray, Angat, Binagbag, Maronquillo, Donacion, San Rafael, Bonga Mayor, Bustos, Sabang, Baliwag, Sta. Barbara, Bintog, Plaridel, Pulilan and Tibag.

The Angat dam is one of the four dams that the state-run corporation owns in Luzon. The other three are San Roque, Ambuklao and Binga.
