The staging of the games between teams from the American Basketball Association and the NBA Development League will give more opportunities for more international talents to reach the NBA.
Singapore-based sports pilanthropist Paul Monozca, who owns a stake in the ABA, believes the Philippines, Australia, China and Japan will be placed in the radar of top scouts.
“The continued games will benefit the NBA’s scouting program and increase international interests,” Monozca said.
Smart Gilas Pilipinas joined the ABA early this year and played in the United States as part of its buildup for the Asian Games and next year’s Fiba-Asia Championship, the qualifier for the 2012 London Olympics.
Gilas also saw action in an ABA tournament in China, where they finished second.
The ABA is considered one of the biggest sports leagues in the United States in terms of reach with 50 teams and with presence in all cities.
