MANILA—The NCAA squad no one could beat last year tumbled against Cobra Energy Drink yesterday.
Paul Lee flirted with a triple-double as the Ironmen dumped the San Beda-powered Maynilad Water Dragons, 78-70, at the start of the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Lee, the University of the East star, sizzled with 26 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds as the Ironmen raced to an early 21-12 lead that ballooned to 22 points, 65-43, at the end of the third period.
Maynilad came into the game favored with a lineup composed of the San Beda Lions, who captured the 2010 NCAA crown with an 18-game season sweep.
Former Alaska guard Topex Robinson also triumphed in his coaching debut as his RnW Pacific Pipes weathered the PC Gilmore Wizards’ late rally for a 76-72 decision in the first game.
