Liechtenstein's Kathinka Von Deichmann and Thailand’s Nuttanon Kadchapanan handily disposed of their finals foes yesterday to dominate the girls’ and boys’ singles events respectively in the Phinma international junior week 1 yesterday at the Rizal Tennis Center.
Von Deichmann, 16, overpowered Indonesian Aldila Sutjiadi, 6-2, 6-3, to claim the title.
En route to the championship, the fourth seed left a devastation strewn with Filipino victims, including Marinel Rudas in the quarterfinals (6-2, 6-1) and Anne Rene Castillo in the first round (6-1, 6-1).
Also fashioning out a dominating win was second seed Kadchapanan, who blasted compatriot Nattan Benjasupawan, 6-0, 6-0.
In boys doubles, Chinese Taipei netters kept it all in the family with Chen Wei Jen and Yu Cheng Yu beating fellow Taiwanese, second seeds Chiu Yu Hsiang and Tang Chih Chun, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.
The Filipinos, who didn’t last longer than the quarterfinals in girls’ singles and semifinals in girls’ doubles, are hoping to do better this week when the second phase of the tournament unreels. Marc Anthony Reyes
