MANILA—University of the Philippines tries to work on its chemistry again against the unpredictable Emilio Aguinaldo College in the FilOil-Flying V Hanes Preseason Premier Cup today.
After a decisive victory over Jose Rizal U, the Maroons go for a third triumph versus the Generals in the first of two Group B games at 2:15 p.m. at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.
“As the new coach, I’m really getting to know my players,” said UP coach Ricky Dandan. “It’s also me, learning.”
Letran also tries to improve on its 2-3 record against Mapua at 4 p.m., while the Philippine under-16 Youth Team mentored by Olsen Racela tangles with Arellano in the lone juniors game at 12:30 p.m.
Although the Maroons are favored as they gun for solo third, the Generals showed in their last outing that they’re no pushovers either.
Led by African center Noube Happi, the Generals made Adamson work for its 57-54 victory last Saturday.
The Generals dropped to 1-3, but the game also had John Tayongtong, a transferee from Arellano, and Claude Cubo stepping up.
Even with the Maroons flaunting Nigerian center Alinko Mbah, the locals continued to shine as Mike Silungan scattered 22 points and Mike Gamboa added 13 markers in their 80-71 trouncing of the Bombers last Friday.
The Knights, meanwhile, aim to follow up on their 87-76 drubbing of St. Benilde where Kevin Alas sizzled with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
