When we made a decision to start publishing on the internet in 1997, it felt like a big leap of faith. In hindsight, what seemed like a natural and necessary step was actually one that was filled with anxiety and excitement.
I remember the early days when the Philippine Daily Inquirer launched the website, with the aim to reach a wider audience specifically Filipinos abroad. While the online audience and the viability of the venture were unpredictable, we decided it was an important step we needed to make. I am so amazed at how far we have come. Kudos to the entire INQUIRER.net and all who have helped it grow.
We are extremely proud that INQUIRER.net has expanded from a site that had single news offering to a platform that presents a wide range of content and multimedia features. These have made it a favorite and top-of-mind site among Filipinos. We are deeply grateful for the trust that our viewers and partners have placed on us.
INQUIRER.net has weathered countless challenges in the media landscape for the last 23 years. I am looking forward to witnessing it break through many more challenges in the future.
To the men and women of INQUIRER.net our heartfelt congratulations! Let’s continue to nurture the desire to be first, fair and fearless. Here’s to more years of telling the Filipino story!
The observance of INQUIRER.net’s 23rd anniversary today could not have come at an inauspicious time. With no clear indication of when the contagion will finally end, the future seems more uncertain than ever before. Experts say it will take more than sheer will and determination to overcome the challenges.
